Off the coast of Southport, North Carolina, there is a little speck on a map. A slice of heaven. A grain in the universe. It is only known to a few people. Bald Head Island, only reachable by ferry, is home to just 200 year-round residents who use golf carts as their only form of transportation around the island. This place is for anyone: families, friends, and pets. For those of you looking for a tranquil beach vacation, this is the spot — there is nowhere on the east coast like it. Here is a helpful guide for making the most out of your stay on BHI.

Whether you are the vacationer who wants to sit at the beach and sleep, or paddle board, surf and fish, Bald Head Island caters to any sort of guest. The surf shop offers surfboards, paddle boards and bikes to rent for the day or the whole week. For the parents, it is an easy way to keep your technology-craving kids occupied.

The island has two different beach clubs: The Shoals Club and The Bald Head Island Club. If the beach is not for you and you want to sit poolside while enjoying a drink, it's never been easier. The Bald Head Island Club is more kid-friendly while The Shoals Club has a more sophisticated feel to it. Both clubs offer fine dining as well as some tasty poolside menus.

The most popular places to eat are located in the marina. Mojos on the Harbor is BHI’s only waterfront dining experience — it is a very family-friendly location that offers outstanding seafood, sushi, specialty cocktails, icy cold beer and wines. Delphinas is the other highly-visited location with a family-friendly meal. It offers Mexican cuisine as well as a very unique outdoor bar. Over the summer, Delphinas hosts a sunset celebration every Monday night. There is a DJ, drinks and even a mermaid for the kids! A lot of the local shops have a pop-up shop at sunset celebration.
