From Winston Salem to McEwen - Village Juice Co.

If you’re anything like me, you were beyond ecstatic when you first caught word that Elon was putting in a juice bar in the newly renovated McEwen dining hall. Located in Elon’s Historic neighborhood, McEwen has been under reconstruction for a little over a year now, yet, with the fence finally down and the furniture moving in, students around campus are more anxious to step foot in Elon’s new dining hall.

There have been many stories about what used to occupy the lower level of McEwen; Chick-fil-A being a fan favorite among many students. This past January, Elon News Network released the article “New dining Hall Options Announced for McEwen Dining Hall”, giving the Elon community a look into what will become the campus’ newest dining hall. This article made note that Chick-Fil-A would not be returning to McEwen due to spatial issues, but that this would provide “…[Elon] with the opportunity to bring a new vendor to campus — potentially a local company — and involve Elon students in making the decision based on their dining preferences.”

The possibility of having another local company, like Village Juice Co., is an exciting and unique opportunity for Elon to venture beyond the typical dining hall experience.

The words “welcome to your healthy addiction” written above the information on their website seems very plausible based off of the beautiful, and frankly, mouthwatering pictures that Village Juice Company uses to advertise their company. Village Juice Co.’s menu is plant based, sourcing their produce locally. They believe that “superfoods make you feel superhuman. And everyone deserves to feel that way,” a statement that I, and I know many others, would totally agree with.

Village Juice Co.’s website shows a menu full of beautiful smoothies, salads, grain bowls, toast, and of course juices.

The exact items that will make it to McEwen are sadly to be determined, but here’s to hoping the Herb & Pumpkin Seed Salad does! This salad  consists of greens, parsley, cilantro, mint & basil blend, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, pumpkin seeds, and a citrus vinaigrette. It is just one of the many mouthwatering items on Village Juice Co.’s menu.

Village Juice Co. has a number of other delicious items, such as Avo Vegan toast, Pinky Swear smoothie, and the Farmer’s Daughter grain bowl. Elon students will be able to use their meal plan in all of McEwen’s dining options, including Village Juice Company. This will give students an opportunity to order and buy food from Village Juice Co. at a reasonable price!

Juice bars have been quite the craze recently, and the fact that we will now have one in our very own dining hall is so exciting.

“I’m most excited to have Village Juice Co.,” says Elon sophomore Emma Scott Singletary, “because it’s one of my favorite places to stop at in Winston Salem and now it’s right on campus!”

Singletary, I, and many others would surely believe that the luxury of having our very own juice bar on campus, and in connection with our meal plan, is going to be such a beautifully delicious addition to Elon Dining.
