Holiday Traditions

Holiday traditions are unique to individuals, which is why they are so special. Whether you have plans to travel across the globe, stay at home, or spend time with family, each tradition embodies the holiday spirit. Take a look at some of these traditions to get you excited for the season ahead!

Travel is often associated with the holidays. For current senior Adriana DeLuca and her family, each Christmas they travel somewhere warm in an attempt to escape the cold and soak up the sun.

“Ever since my siblings and I have gone off to college and the real world, Christmas break is the only time we can all be together,” DeLuca says. “Since we have all kind of reached the age where we make our own money and buy things as needed, we decided as a family to use the time to go on a vacation instead.”’

For senior student Ana Ford, her family’s New Year’s Eve tradition has always been her favorite.

“We eat 12 grapes at midnight and as you eat each one you make a wish for the New Year,” Ford says. “This is my favorite tradition because we always celebrate with my Grandma.”

Bridget Turner is a senior who looks forward to spending time at home with her family for Christmas.

“As a family, we decorate the tree, drink eggnog and listen to old school Christmas songs by the fire,” Turner says. “We have a gingerbread house decorating contest as well which is always really fun.”

Ariel Karson is a current junior who always looks forward to Christmas Eve.

“Every year my family and I go to our friend’s big fancy party, where there is such delicious food and tons of people,” Karson says. “My mom makes about eight different kinds of cookies and everyone sings Christmas songs all night.”

Emily Henshaw spends Christmas day on the beach with her family and wouldn’t want to spend the holiday any other way.

“I love going to the beach on Christmas day back home with my family and friends,” Henshaw says. “It’s always my family, my grandparents and four other families and we have the best time.”
