We’ve officially made it to the third week of classes this spring semester, which means the heavy work loads and busy schedules are in full force. Adjusting back to being a full-time student after studying abroad over January Term, spending the month at home, or taking one class every day is harder than you would predict. It’s all too easy to get caught up in our busy and demanding new schedules, and sometimes we don’t realize that we are facilitating an environment for ourselves that causes even more stress than necessary!

Spring cleaning, as daunting as it sounds, can be an easy and effective way to make sure your living environment isn’t overwhelming and instead can offer a sanctuary for an escape from your busy lives. There are many cheap and simple products that are essential in helping to ensure your space is clean and peaceful to unwind from your day.

  1. Dust and dirt accumulate faster than we’d all like to admit. The handheld swiffer duster is an easy and cheap option to use to clean up your desk or dresser surface on-the-go.

  2. Clorox wipes are additional easy and handy things to have available for fast and effective cleaning. Not only do they effectively clean almost any surface, but they also kill toxic bacteria that could get you sick!

  3. Having lots of storage in your dorm or apartment is another easy way to stay clean and organized. Having a messy room is proven to induce stress or anxiety, so make sure you are loaded up on lots of storage to keep both your space and mind free from clutter.

  4. The last piece in making sure you have a calming and clean sanctuary is using an air freshener or candle for a little aromatherapy! Wall plug-ins or candles are cheap and easy tools that you can incorporate into your space for a breath of fresh air.

Having a clean and tidy space is important in maintaining a healthy mental space,  ensuring you will be productive, organized and successful both in classes and in relationships with the people you love. Prioritizing your mental health is essential, especially at the beginning of a new semester of stress. Implement these few products into your spring cleaning ritual this year so you can focus on killing it every day!
