Ziplining in Antigua
Thanks to the plethora of food we all ate over winter break, our favorite bathing suits may not be fitting as nicely as they once did. It’s always a good time to go on an excursion that will get your body spring-break ready. While in Antigua with my family, I chose to do a zipline activity instead of hitting the gym.
Being that the "D-boat” — an activity where you jump out of a large boat and onto a huge float in the ocean that catapults you up into the sky and then back into the water — did not suit me well, so I opted to try an Antigua Rainforest Zipline Tour. This excursion allows you to venture across the island, see how differently things operate across a mere 11 miles and zipline through one of Antigua's rainforests.
My family always insists on going above and beyond, so we signed up for the Zipline Tour and Challenge Course. For $89 per person, this four-hour excursion took us through the verdant rainforest via 13 zip lines, the longest of which is 328 feet long.
After zipping through the rainforest, our trusted guides set us free to tackle the challenge course ourselves, and let me tell you, "challenge" is an understatement.
Despite having to hurdle over, duck under, and go through obstacles, we had to secure our ropes ourselves. To me, this was the biggest challenge of all.
After having lost my voice on the zip lines (I found out I am not one for heights after all), I certainly did not think I was up for such a challenge. The course was physically taxing, but definitely worth it. It was a great way to get active while still enjoying the beauty Antigua has to offer. Although I would probably not have said this in the moment, looking back I now would definitely recommend this excursion to all visiting — your vacation (or mine for that matter) wouldn’t be complete without it.
