Your Local Market: Authentically Alamance

Farmers’ markets are a springtime staple, and what better market to visit than our very own Elon farmers’ market, Authentically Alamance.

The Authentically Alamance farmers market pays a visit to Elon every Thursday from 3:00-6:30 pm during the warm months of fall and spring. Located right on the lawn of the Elon Community Church, the location of the farmers market is in walking distance and quite student-friendly!

While some vendors only take cash the market is still very debit and credit card friendly. In case buyers do not have cash, token’s may be purchased with card as a cash equivalent.

Attracting Elon students and residents alike, Authentically Alamance is a small yet mighty market.

As the spring crops quickly come into season, local farmers are beginning to have more and more products to offer at the farmers market.

Dinner Bell Farm is just one of the market’s vendors who offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables for sale. Grown sustainably and chemical free, Dinner Bell Farm is the perfect place to find a fresh salad mix, kale, swiss chard and more. Another local farm, T-5 Farms offers a variety of produce at the market as well. For fresh strawberries at $3.50 a basket, this organic produce is quite the budget-friendly option for every college student!

While nothing beats fresh springtime produce, a loaf of freshly baked bread can be hard to pass down. Piedmont Farm has a variety of baked breads and other goods, including four different varieties of their delicious artisan breads, cinnamon rolls, cake, shortbreads, and even an Argentinian traditional quince pie.

Our local farmers’ market has a lot to offer, much more than just fresh and tasty food!

From stained glass art crafted by Dreamcatchers, Inc. to hand made shawls by Fatima’s Shawl & Silver to reusable swiffers and “unpaper” towels by Karen’s Kreations, this small market packs a full variety of artisan products for every kind of student and resident of the Elon community.

We often forget the value of shopping local in the current industrial age. Spending a sunny afternoon at the farmers’ market is a wonderful reminder of why it is so valuable to shop local and to do so in a community you love.

So, whether you want to grab a quick bite to eat, stock your pantry and fridge, or buy a fresh bouquet of flowers, the Authentically Alamance Farmers’ market is certainly the place to be!
