Kure Beach: A Hidden Gem

We all know being stuck in the Elon bubble can be really suffocating. With the addition of social distancing and COVID-19 limitations, school just hasn’t felt the same. Around this time of year would have been fall break, so we knew we needed a little break from reality. An escape for a long weekend was just what the doctor ordered. We spent countless hours searching for the best kept secret beaches in North Carolina so you didn’t have to!

It seemed like the whole world wanted to escape to a North Carolina beach this weekend because almost every hotel and Airbnb was booked. We were about to give up when we saw a cancellation on an Airbnb on Kure beach. We hadn’t heard of Kure beach before, but we decided why not and booked yourself a long weekend getaway.

Our Airbnb was a recently renovated condo two blocks from the beach. Upon arrival everything looks perfect and just like the photos shown on the Airbnb site. We expected Kure beach to look like an area right out of Outer Banks, and we were right. If you want to have a John B type of weekend this area is perfect for you and your friends.

Kure is a fishing hub for the North Carolina shore. All the locals were super friendly and followed COVID-19 protocols. At no point in the weekend did we feel unsafe or like we were at risk to get sick. Kure beach was honestly such a lucky, hidden gem we stumbled upon through booking this Airbnb.

We fished, we ate good food, and we rested a ton. If you are a seafood lover and find yourself in this area check out Shuck and Shack, Havannas, and Surf House. We hadn't had seafood this fresh in months. The food options varied in price depending on whether it was a cute beach dive bar or a fancier restaurant.

The food will not be the only thing bringing us back to this area, the coffee was honestly hands down the best things we’ve tasted. We went to the Java Hut every morning for iced coffee. We recommend the "Mermaid Magic" and the "Riptide."

We felt like we were very off the grid for being only 3 and a half hours away from campus. The drive made us realize these little getaways are more plausible to do often then we initially thought.
