Brewery Bonanza

When in doubt, look to a craft beer to find some happiness in dreary 2020. Locally crafted beer and microbreweries have become the next big thing-- especially during this pandemic. It is hard not to give into the appeal of a family friendly, pet friendly environment where you can sit back and enjoy a fresh beer. As students of legal age at Elon University, it’s easy to run out of things to do on weekends while maintaining social distance guidelines. We are sharing some suggestions for local breweries that make for the perfect weekend escape from Elon.

  1. Pig Pounder Brewery in Greensboro, N.C.

The Pig Pounder automatically welcomes you to an aesthetically pleasing lounge right as you walk in the door. The art throughout creates such a unique atmosphere that makes you never want to leave. You could stay for hours looking at the different art pieces and paintings. It would be hard to get tired of looking at exceptional art and drinking craft beer, but if you do there are air hockey tables and ping pong tables to enjoy. As for the beer, they offer fruity, hoppy, lighter, darker, and even a cider. If you are so taken aback by one of their brews or ciders, they even offer growlers that you can purchase to take home with you.

2. Red Oak Brewery in Whitsett, N.C

Red Oak is one of the bigger names in beer in North Carolina. Since this brewery is so large, they offer tours of the brewery process and the biergarten. Something to keep in mind is that Red Oak only offers lagers because they are America’s largest lager-only craft brewery. When we visited, they had 4 different lagers, all lighter brews, on tap. If you aren’t sure which one to go Red Oak also hosts food trucks that vary at their location every day of the week. This environment they have created is so laid back, it is just like you are enjoying a beer in a beautiful backyard.

3. Burlington Beer Works in Burlington, N.C.

If you are like us and need food to go along with your beer, this is the place for you. Burlington Beer Works offers a more restaurant feel with a wonderful variety of nicely crafted beers. Neither the beer nor the food is better than the other. They are both equally spectacular. Burlington Beer Works offers a variety of ciders, fruity, lighter and darker beers for those that want to try everything. For those that REALLY want to try everything, they also offer different types of wine. So when we say they have everything, they really do have everything. Not only is the experience sitting down at the restaurant and brewery phenomenal, but you are also able to create an order online for pickup. The atmosphere is one of a kind and leaves you wanting to come back for more.
