If there’s ever been a time to get creative with date ideas, it’s now. With the added obstacles thrown at us by COVID-19, it can be tricky to come up with fun, creative first date ideas that comply with social distancing guidelines.

Although it can be a difficult time to stay connected and meet new people, it’s also important to make the first move and surround yourself with people that make it a little bit easier to get through this together. At Bumble, we encourage you to follow the advice of local and national health authorities. Whether you decide to meet in real life from a 6-foot distance or would prefer to stick to virtual-only dates for now, here are 7 date ideas for you and your latest Bumble match.

1. Enjoy the outdoors

I’m sure we didn’t have to tell you this one—after quarantining for months, nothing compares to fresh air! Find a local spot to get moving on a hiking trail, or pack a picnic and admire the scenery.

2. Kick back for movie night

Now that the go-to, classic movie date isn’t an option, a couple of creative alternatives have stepped up to the plate. With the reemergence of outdoor movie theaters, you can take your date on a nostalgic adventure for the night—just make sure to check availability in advance. If you’re looking to stay in, download Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) to watch your favorite streaming service together, but from your separate homes.

3. Share a meal

Even if you can’t take them out to dinner, you can still bond over your love for food. Hop on a video chat through Bumble’s Video Chat and Voice Call feature, throw on your chef’s hat, cook the same meal from home, and compare the results for some friendly competition! Feeling lazy? Order takeout from the same restaurant and get grubbing.

4. Go for game night

You can’t go wrong with a deck of cards for a good time, but if you’re unable to play on a porch or patio, there’s a virtual option, too! Tabletopia is an online platform that allows you and your opponent to play hundreds of your favorite board games, just like you would in real life.

5. Go on a grocery trip

Everyone needs to regularly restock the fridge, so why not do it together? Grab your masks and stroll the aisles while picking out your favorite snacks.

6. Give a virtual apartment tour

It’s your classic video date—but if you need something to break the ice, suggest giving a tour of your home. Show off the plants you take care of, the art you made on your walls, or introduce your roommates! It’s an easy segway into not only showing them who you are but getting to know them better, too.

7. Break a sweat with an online workout class

Get your exercise in for the day with your new workout buddy! Sign up for a virtual HIIT class, yoga class, or anything else that will get your body moving and your heart pumping.
