What to Do During the Holiday Break When You're Stuck at Home

The most wonderful time of the year is looking a bit different this year than it normally does. Not to worry though, because we have some ideas on how to keep it as normal as possible. This year is unlike any other in that we have an extended holiday break. Most of us are going stir crazy in quarantine so here are some jolly ideas to keep yourself busy and make the most of your time with your family.

1. Bake some goodies

I mean, who doesn’t like spending a whole day baking different types of Christmas cookies and blaring holiday tunes?! With all the time on your hands, try and either do a cookie swap with some neighbors or just leave each of your neighbors a handmade gift.

2. Watch home videos

Home videos are a staple especially when the family is all together. As much as we love Christmas movies, mix it up with some videos from your childhood to relax and fully take in the holiday cheer.

3. Try an advent calendar

Whether you are 21 and up or not, there are advent calendars out there for anything you can think of. It could consist of a new beer or wine everyday, different types of candy, or even movie suggestions. If that doesn’t draw your attention, then why not spend some time creating your own.

4. Decorate a gingerbread house

Making classic gingerbread houses creates some of the finest memories from holiday break. While it may not always look great, they never fail to be a tasty holiday treat.

5. Drive around and look at Christmas lights

With nothing but time on our hands, many of us have had loads of time to hang Christmas lights this year. Take your family and some freshly brewed hot chocolate and go for a nice drive around different neighborhoods, enjoying all of the decorative lights.

6. Ice skating

Depending on your state's quarantine rules, look to see if there are any ice skating rinks open near you. It would make for a night to remember that is worth the chilly atmosphere.

7. Roast some s’mores

Even if you don’t have a fireplace, there are still ways to participate in s’more making. Check out this s’mores indoors video on YouTube to stay safe inside and still enjoy the favorite camping treat.

8. Have a movie marathon

Last but certainly not least, have a movie marathon with your family. The number of Christmas movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime is never ending. Disney+ even has some really good ones, and of course don’t forget the classic Hallmark movies!
