How to Wear the Brightest New York Fashion Week Makeup Trends

From puff sleeves to floral prints and boxy blazers, 80s fashion is undoubtedly making a major comeback. As anyone could have guessed, these bold, over-the-top trends are making their way into the beauty world.

Bright, neon makeup is popping up everywhere, from magazine covers to celebs showing off their looks on Instagram. This style also hit the New York Fashion Week runways this February. High-end designers including Oscar De La Renta and Self Portrait incorporated bright pops of neon pink, blue, and green in their runway makeup looks.

While highlighter yellow may sound intimidating in the context of makeup, there are some easy, less-scary ways to incorporate neon into your makeup routine to spice up your look.

The most important technique for making neon casual is to keep the rest of your face makeup neutral and dewy, making the pop of color the main focus. Be sure to start with a blank canvas to avoid over-doing it.

Try swiping a magenta, electric blue, or bright orange eyeshadow beneath your eyes, and finish it off with your favorite mascara. To make it even more casual, opt for a neon-colored liquid eyeliner to upgrade your classic cat eye.

For a neon lip color, go for a natural eye look and a no-makeup makeup look for the face. Then pop on a hot pink or orange lipstick or something even brighter if you’re feeling bold!
