Get The Look For Less: Oscars Edition
The makeup industry is booming and at an all-time high. In 2018, the industry brought in $8.1 million! Celebrities like the Kardashians or Jenners are practically surrounded by a team of makeup and hair artists 24/7. While we don’t have that luxury, there are definitely ways to achieve their red carpet looks without breaking the bank.
It seems crazy to spend over $50 on foundation or even $60 on a colorful palette. A common misconception about makeup is that more expensive equals better. Even though makeup can be extremely expensive, some of the best products can be found for affordable prices on drugstore shelves.
When the Oscars were held last week, we were blessed with many stunning makeup moments. Unlike a lot of award shows, the Oscars encourages more classy, traditional glamour, whereas the Met Gala is more suitable for celebs’ wildest looks. We think the Oscars is the perfect place to start when examining makeup that is extremely well done without all the extra bits and bobs.
Makeup showcased on the red carpet is likely to be quite expensive, which is so unnecessary when recreating the look. We’re going to show you how to get one stunning look for way less. Let’s use Caitriona Balfe as our example.
Balfe has a very lightweight foundation on that definitely has more of a dewy finish. A cheap but effective alternative to this would be Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint.
To lock the light foundation down, you need something that won’t make your face extremely matte, but will prevent your makeup from sliding. Check out Airspun Loose Face Powder.
It seems as if Balfe has no contour or highlight, which gives her more of a natural look. However, she’s showing off a beautiful subtle pink blush. Our all time favorite pinky blush is Glossier’s Cloud Paint in Puff.
Even though this look is simple overall, Balfe’s eyelashes really make her eyes pop. To get a wispy eye look like this, we recommend L’Oreal Telescopic mascara.
To finish the look off, Balfe has a matte red liquid lip. Our personal favorite liquid lip is NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream because of how comfortable it is to wear.
Award season can be intimidating, especially with everyone looking so beautiful. It is easy to tell yourself that looking like celebrities is simply out of reach, but remember: It doesn’t always have to be expensive and it is completely possible!
