Dear Morning People
Dear morning people,
For the longest time I wondered what your secret was to getting up early to be able to start your day productively. Was it pure motivation or simply getting into a routine? I have never been much of a morning person until I started to leave my blinds open when I go to bed.
Waking up willingly at 8 in the morning everyday was a hard habit to get into. But now, after doing so, the results have been wonderful. I am a much happier person, and I credit that to the natural sunlight. Opening your eyes to sunlight is an immediate mood-booster, isn't it?
There is no longer a rush to get out of bed and get work done. I get up, make my breakfast, tidy up a few things, and then work on whatever the week presents me with. Night owls are usually rushing to make a cup of coffee and get out the door to be able to get to class on time.
What is better than waking up motivated to get things done? Absolutely nothing. I credit a family member for giving me this idea: every morning I write five things down that I want to get done for the day. Doing so automatically motivates me to see that list dwindle down to nothing, knowing I have accomplished so much in one day. If I do not finish the list, I take off what I finished and move up what I haven't in preparation for the next day.
Thank you morning people for opening my eyes, literally and figuratively, to the beauty of those three extra hours of productivity that I was missing out on. You have made me appreciate rolling out of my comfy bed just a little bit more.
Next time you night owls get a nudge of motivation, try to leave your blinds open and, if needed, set an alarm but don't hit snooze!
