5 Pieces That Should STAY in Grandma's Closet

Although tweed sets and leather loafers are staples in grandma’s closet, there are some pieces that should not be taken out of storage and certainly should not be purchased.

Sunglass Chains

The first grandma trend that needs to disappear are sunglass chains. This attempt to accessorize an accessory seems overdone. It is reminiscent of grandma’s chain around her neck that she uses to switch to her reading glasses, giving her easy access to check something on her flip phone. These products, especially in luxury boutiques such as the Chanel pair on the right, should be taken off the shelves asap and be put into hiding with neon Sugar Lip tank tops.

High-Waisted Swimwear

Next up, we have high-waisted swimwear. There is a fine line with this trend, easily slipping into granny territory. On the left, is the trend executed correctly. The side-tie and shimmer details keep the suit youthful and fun, even with this old-school style. Marysia has beautiful swimwear, but the super high waist of the bikini on the right can be unflattering and looks dated.

Kitten Heels

A nightmare to walk in and a nightmare to look at. I don’t know what to say about these. Are they casual? Are they dressy? They don’t elongate your legs and are usually unflattering. If comfort and style are factors, opt for a higher platform wedge or heel, or even a 2 inch wrap up sandal for more of a youthful look. The first black pair you see is a maybe, if styled correctly but the pink pair? An absolute no. The blue pair is the only acceptable version of this trend.

Belt Bags

A belt bag is a grandma’s dream travel bag, but only if a selfie stick and some hard candies are inside. Fanny packs have hit every luxury fashion house, but I just can’t wrap my head around this fad. Fading rather quickly, stay away and buy something that is a bit more classic.

Birkenstocks

Unless you’re walking on water, these Jesus sandals are not suitable for streetwear. Although my grandpa loves them for comfort and versatility, designers and young people alike should abandon these sandals before we are allowed to leave the house.
