3 TikTok Breakfast Recipes Rated so You Know What to Try and What to Leave Alone
Spending at least 2 hours scrolling on TikTok a day is basically the new world order. TikTok hits you right where you are, due to their advanced (and semi creepy) algorithm. We always find it amusing how whenever we are hungry, TikTok just so happens to show us the most delicious food videos. Whether it’s a breakfast sandwich hack or a refreshing banana smoothie, these videos are addicting to watch.
Like any curious person, The Edge decided to see if the most viral TikTok recipes were really worth getting out of bed to make. For 3 days, we picked different TikTok breakfast recipe hacks to try. Here are the results:
1. Banana Smoothie
This sounded easy and super simple, but oh boy it was not. Prior to watching this video we never froze our bananas before making the smoothie, but the TikTok showed the result having a thicker texture, so we gave it a try. We froze a banana overnight and then in the morning put it into the blender with two spoonfuls of peanut butter, some Greek yogurt, honey, and a hand full of chocolate chips.
The banana was so frozen it wouldn’t blend, so after 5 minutes of strenuous blending, we decided to cut the banana and put it back into the blender. Even when it was cut it still had some problems mixing, so we added a splash of milk to help move things along. Once it was all blended together, we realized how much of a difference freezing the banana made. Instead of a runny smoothie, our final product basically tasted like banana chocolate chip ice cream! 10/10 recommend
2. Breakfast Egg Sandwich
We could not pass up this recipe! Everyone has been putting their toast directly onto their eggs and doing some crazy flipping until it folds into a perfect sandwich. Are you confused? We were too. We started by cracking two eggs into a small pan. After the eggs looked cooked, we placed two pieces of bread next to each other on top of the eggs. Once the bread started cooking, we put bacon on one of the pieces and american cheese on the other.
Up until this point it seemed pretty simple—until we messed up the flipping of the eggs. We were supposed to fold both sides together and flip one piece on another, but we got confused and our breakfast sandwich turned into a big mush. We forgot to take pictures since we were way too preoccupied on not overcooking the eggs. 5/10 recommend (The Edge recommends scrambling the eggs next time and then putting it on the toast…even though it doesn’t look as cool it’s much easier.)
3. Pancake Cereal
Pancake cereal seemed like all the rage, so we had to try. The concept seemed like a great idea so we grabbed our favorite Aunt Jemima's pancake mix and got started. We took a plastic zip lock bag, poured in the mix and cut a hole into the bottom. We then made tiny little pancakes (probably a bit bigger than a quarter). We repeated that process around 25 times and made 25 little pancakes. After each was finished and both sides of the tiny pancake were cooked, we threw them into a bowl, topped it with butter and some syrup and we had the ULTIMATE pancake cereal. 11/10 recommend (With luck like ours, yours will turn out better than the original TikTok videos.)
These hacks were honestly all amazing, so we can definitely understand why people are super into these TikTok recipes. The breakfast food was by far the easiest of the recipes to make, but there are also a ton of lunch and dinner recipes that going viral. We can’t wait to try the buffalo cauliflower recipe next!
