Trend Alert: Tie Dye
Tie-dye, what seemed a fleeting trend, has stuck around since March, gaining popularity as a result of the DIY culture that consumers adopted during quarantine. Now, this trend is everywhere from sweatsuits to silky dresses.
However, the overwhelming options make styling this trend difficult, especially if you don’t normally pull off colors or prints. Tie-dye is still having its moment, hitting peak popularity the beginning of this summer season.
Many seemed hesitant to hop in on this trend due to the saturated market in this niche category. This trend became so popular due to the influx of retailers adopting it and making it their own, including urban luxury brands such as Golden Goose and Off-White. As the trend evolves, you can find more in-style pieces such as cowl necks, one-shoulder tops/dresses and midi skirts in eye-catching patterns.
We tested out this trend and styled nine looks, each with at least one tie-dye element. Ranging from matching sets, shorts, baggy tees, dresses and skirts, we hope this lookbook gives you some inspiration and that this trend stays around for at least another season, rather than getting lost with PVC and hair clips.
Matching Sets
From streetwear to cozy everyday looks, this take on the tie-dye trend is a WFH uniform. The pink set in the middle is the edgiest, with the bralette and matching joggers, while the others are cozy and lightweight, easy to throw on and lounge around in. Both the sweatsuit styled with the Drew slippers and the short set below are cozy and casual and can be worn as a PJ set or can be elevated with a matching sneaker and accessories.
Shorts
Besides the classic jogger, it can be hard to find other bottoms that follow the tie-dye trend. This pair from Vanilla Sky is a bit more subdued with a white base and navy accents. Whether it’s to run errands, go to class or lounge around in, a pair of lounge shorts are always perfect, staying on-trend but also being tame enough for minimalistic aesthetics.
If biker shorts are more your speed, pairing them with an oversized tie-dye T-shirt or hoodie is a great way to integrate this trend into your wardrobe. While it is an easy DIY, if you’re looking to purchase, T-shirts like this are everywhere, but the one pictured is from Vanilla Sky.
Dresses and Skirts
More of a girly-girl? Instead of opting for an oversized tee or sweatsuit, try this trend with a one-shoulder dress, midi or mini skirt, or even a silky mini dress. All of these styles are on-trend, but this colorful element is what sets these pieces apart. Strappy sandals and wedges call for more of a night-time summer look while throwing on tkees or white sneakers with any of these outfits sets more of a relaxed tone.
