Utah's Hidden Gem: Amangiri
We’ve all seen them. You know, the Instagram posts picturing some influencer dressed in just-bathed spa attire, sipping morning tea while leaning against the tall tan concrete walls and gazing at the stunning piece of seemingly endless desert landscape─from dunes to mountain ridges. There’s a reason this remote resort has grown to fame. No other resort has seemed to perfect the balance between modern luxury and immersion in the simplicity of nature all at once. Introducing: Amangiri, where time is unknown, movement is unhurried, and a connection to nature is unlike any you’ve experienced before.
Tucked away in the ridges of Canyon Point, Utah, this untouched 600-acre wide gem is the ultimate secluded desert getaway. Most would even say the resort is solely a celebrity hotspot. Kourtney Kardashian, Emily Ratajkowski, Marianna Hewitt, Candice Swanepoel, Kendall Jenner, Aimee Song─the list goes on. But while the resort is highly frequented by A-list celebrities, we can assure you that anyone and everyone will find a much-needed break in this slice of paradise.
The 5-star resort’s physical composition exudes a futuristic yet modern design, flaunting geometrically built concrete structures and an exquisite juxtaposition between minimalism and luxury. Each structure blends seamlessly into its background of endless neutrals and raw beauty, which only makes the establishment appear almost invisible among its surroundings.
While the main facility offers an exclusive 34 suites overlooking rocky terrain, guests can also stay in tented camps in the desert’s wilderness or in isolated, remote homes perched on the surrounding untouched land. Wherever you choose to stay, though, we promise the views will never cease to amaze
Inside the resort you will find concrete-lined hallways, floor-to-ceiling glass windows showcasing the panorama of Canyon Point, secluded still-watered pools adorned with wooden bathing chairs and inviting lounge cushions, and glimpses of sunlight peeking around bends of the dwelling’s clean-cut edges.
A day in Amangiri might begin with a coffee-sipping as the sun rises over distant mountain ridges. And with terrain as transcendent as that around Amangiri, guests might also be interested in exploring the surrounding area, which belongs to the native Navajo tribe. Hike alternatives include, but are not limited to, hot air balloon rides, carefree horseback riding, exhilarating canyoneering, boating and so much more. And if you’re not interested in exploring the immediate surrounding area, feel free to take day trips from the resort to some of the nation’s most incredible national parks. Ever heard of the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park?
But, if you’re vacationing here for the serenity and relaxation, a day spent poolside under the sun would never be a bad idea. Other amenities include a pilates and yoga studio, fitness center, sauna, steam room, heated pool, and individualized treatment rooms at the Aman Spa─offered both indoors and outdoors on the terrace─in which spa-goers are treated with restorative therapies, like water therapy, skincare therapy and more. The Aman approach encapsulates the idea of being in full harmony with the self and nature, which is otherwise known as hózhó, a Navajo-inspired holistic approach to wellness. And if you ask a guest, they’ll tell you this approach seems to be a recurring theme throughout the entire resort.
After a day filled with either adventure or pure real-world recess, guests are welcome to enjoy drinks and hors d'œuvres at the lounge, or indulge in the Native American inspired cuisine comprising fresh, local ingredients, all whilst admiring the sunset across the Colorado plateau. Or, let’s be real: guests can do both.
Sounds like a dream, right? We think so, too. If you can get past the absurd price tag (around $2,000 per night for a basic suite), a trip to this desert paradise would be a trip well taken. With breathtaking views, unmatched serenity, and the option to escape to far away terrain or within the bounds of the resort itself, this destination is easily the Shangri-La of the West.
