Safety First: Our List of Self-Defense Products that Every College Girl Must Have

Being a girl is tough. From everything from PMS to misogyny to being scared while walking alone at night—it’s no walk in the park. One of the things that sometimes can be forgotten while in Elon’s bubble is our own safety. We’ve compiled a list of affordable yet safe products that can (hopefully) give you some peace of mind while out living your life.

Lipstick pepper spray

Sabre makes pepper spray fashionable with their lipstick pepper spray product. A slim bottle that is designed to fit in your purse, backpack or wallet - this is a go-to and a necessity. Pepper spray is legal to carry.

Personal safety alarm

Birdie produces a mini safety alarm that can be set off if you are put in a dangerous situation. When activated, a piercing sound erupts and simultaneously triggers a flashing strobe light. They are made in bright colors so the device is easy to spot in your bag.

Self-defense keychain

Keys are something that we carry with us everywhere. This My Kitty plastic keychain, shaped like a cat’s head, can easily be slipped on your fingers in case of a sudden attack. The keychain feature makes the product easy to carry everywhere and anywhere.

Flashlight

The journey home from the bar, a late class or dinner with friends can be daunting when you’re walking in the dark. Having a flashlight handy not only helps you improve your sight but also gives you a sense of your surroundings.

Common sense

This may sound cliche, but one of the most important self-defense tools in our toolkit is using common sense. Utilizing the buddy system, refraining from looking down at your phone when you’re walking, turning on your “Find My Friends” so your loved ones know where you are… These are all crucial and important steps to take to ensure your personal safety.
