Five Ways to Make the Most - Campus Life in 2020

Coming back to campus this year has been challenging for many students. Colleges and universities are abiding by strict regulations or fully shutting down; and student life is not going on as normal. Though we must adjust to the new circumstances, there are certainly ways to make the best and look for silver linings while stuck without our typical college life stimuli. Here we will provide a round up of ideas to create the best memories and happiest environment considering current circumstances.

Buy a disposable camera and use it to capture daily memories or fun experiences. A small group of my friends celebrated a birthday last weekend and bought several disposable cameras to capture the day. Perhaps buying one weekly could lead to a fun end of year scrapbook to commemorate one of the craziest years of all of our lives- and celebrate these unique moments.

Another idea is taking a video each day for one second that encapsulates a happy moment- or a raw one- of your day to day moments. At the end of the year you can combine all of these little moments into a longer video that illustrates what your year really looked like. Through this we can gather little moments of happiness and find joy in simpler things.

We’ve all heard of time capsules or boxes that encapsulate ideas of a certain time. A new take on this is to make a time capsule box with your friends of predictions for the school year ahead. Everyone writes a few predictions and adds them to the box and at the end of the year you look back and reflect on where you thought you may be versus where you actually are.

Another idea for filling your time and making the most of this offbeat situation is to channel your energy into yourself. Self care and love is so important at this time in our lives, and we believe it can often be overlooked or put on the backburner, as college students often prioritize other things. However with minimal opportunities for exciting experiences, this is the perfect opportunity to show yourself some love. Walks around campus, journaling, practicing yoga outside, or taking a bath with candles are all ideas of ways to show yourself a little extra TLC during this unprecedented situation.

Lastly, we can also view this as a blessing in disguise to spend extra time with our friends instead of partying in big settings. Sometimes the best nights are wine nights or game night with your group of friends. I am choosing to pour energy into the people I love, instead of my usual lifestyle of spreading myself so thin. In the few weeks we’ve been on campus, I’ve had deeper conversations with my best friends than I have in the past three years. I think this is an especially exciting highlight and blessing of this year.
