A Look Into @StyleByEmi: Elon Senior and Digital Creator

Emily Weinberg ‘21 created a fashion Instagram account and blog last spring and, in just a few months, has increased her following to over one thousand while delivering consistent content (close to 50 posts, plus stories). We were able to get an inside look into StyleByEmi and hear all about her inspo, engagement strategy, some fun trend predictions and much more!

What was your inspiration for creating StyleByEmi? Have you always wanted to have a creative account like this?

“I wanted to start this account because I have always been drawn to the fashion industry and have admired so many content creators who have utilized Instagram as a platform to showcase their passions. Over quarantine, I felt like it would be a great opportunity to take a chance and begin an account of my own. Along with this, I want to enter the fashion PR industry and felt this would be a great opportunity to showcase my love for fashion and content creation before graduating and beginning the job hunt.”

Which fashion bloggers/Instagram accounts do you look up to?

“Some of my favorite bloggers are Delaney Childs, Jourdan Sloane and Sofia Coelho. They not only have great fashion intuition but are super personable in their stories and content, which makes them more relatable to followers. I get fashion tips and outfit ideas from all three of them constantly and am always interested in what they are up to in their day to day lives.”

How would you describe your brand and style?

“I think my personal style is always changing, but I would describe it as edgy and casual. I usually like to buy more practical pieces that can be mixed and matched to make many different outfits. I also tend to be drawn toward neutral-toned clothing items; my closet is full of black, grey and whites. My favorite looks usually fall into the street style category. Oversized sweatshirts are a must!”

How have you been able to build your following?

“The biggest way I’ve been able to build a following has been engaging with other accounts. There are so many other small bloggers out there who are producing great content and providing support usually drives interaction in return. I think it is so cool to get to meet people through the platform and learn from other bloggers no matter where they are in the world.”

Have you always had a love for fashion?

“I have always been interested in fashion, but it wasn’t until I got to college that I got the confidence to really develop my own style. As my personal fashion began to grow, so did my interest in keeping up with current trends and various fashion influencers. I love getting new look ideas and putting together new outfits, which is what helped me realize I want to enter the industry.”

Do you have trend predictions for fall/winter?

“While leather has always been a bit of a staple in the fashion industry, I think it is going to have a bigger moment this year. I have already seen a lot of leather blazers and overcoats beginning to be featured, and I think this might become a big trend as the weather gets colder. “
