Empathy, Always

After essentially six months of quarantining this summer, I knew that I needed to invest in some high-quality leisure-wear for when I would be lounging around my college apartment for the foreseeable future, doing online classes. But everyone knows the challenge of finding cute and comfortable sweatshirts. There’s pricing, fabric, company ethics and much more to consider.

Luckily for me, my search was made pretty easy thanks to my Instagram ad algorithm. Just a few weeks into the beginning of the pandemic, I was introduced to Mayfair (The Label) and their adorable sweatshirts and sweats.

The Mayfair Group was founded in 2017 by its CEO, Samantha Abrahart. According to their website, their mission is to “eliminate the gap between companies and consumers within each of our departments, all while empowering and promoting badass females.” Now that is a brand statement I can get behind!

In addition to their work as a brand management company, they also have a line called “Mayfair The Label,” in which they do trendy, minimalist and classic sweatsuit designs. They have a variety of collections that each represent different trends and ideas, from one celebrating Pride to their classic Mayfair label logo to one modeled after the Butterfly Effect.

My favorite part about Mayfair (The Label) is that 100 percent of the proceeds from their designs surrounding social justice movements are donated to social justice organizations. For their Black Lives Matter collection, all money made from those sweatsuits was donated to the contributing artists, the Color of Change Education Fund and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

So immediately, I knew I wanted to buy one of their sweatshirts and support what I believe to be an amazing and empowering company. But which one? While I could’ve bought a sweatshirt from each collection, unfortunately, my wallet was not in agreement.
