Stay Safe: Night Out Edition

The sold-out, highly-anticipated, new date rape drug protectant is flying off the shelves. There is a fear when going to a bar, a large social event, frat parties and so many more settings that involve holding an uncovered cup around strangers. Imagine you’re at a house party and someone comes up and starts talking to you, their friend walks to the other side of you and drops something in your drink. You’re at a concert, someone walks past you and slides something in your drink. You’re at a bar and someone buys you a drink, they spike it before they bring it over to you. It can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere, for a multitude of horrible reasons. We here at The Edge believe in protecting ourselves and we ALWAYS would rather be safe than sorry. To help during those moments of “did someone put something in my drink?” or “I don’t really trust this one,” here are some of the top cheap and easy to use products to help you determine if your drink has been drugged.

1. SipChip

The SipChip is a super-easy way to test your drink. This company used to produce the wildly known color-changing nail polish to test for date rape drugs. However, they have developed a better, more accurate product to help protect people. You get 5 single-use tests for $14.99 that can attach to your keychain or phone.

How to Use

Take the test out of its packaging and peel the protective foil back, then put one drop of your drink into the SipChip and wait 30 seconds to receive your results (two lines mean your drink is safe to drink).

2. Sticker Test (GCheck)

The sticker test is a widely known and purchase date rape drug testing product. Many college students use this product because it is discreet and easy to use, not to mention accurate and a great form of protection.  For $12.99 you get one pack of stickers but that equals 6 drink checks. The stickers go directly on the back of your phone.

How to Use

Remove the sticker from the sheet and attach it to a phone, bag, or ay surface you would like. Dip your finger into your drink and then touch the sticker. Wait one minute and if the sticker changes color then your drink has been drugged, but if it stays the same, it is safe to enjoy.

3. Drink Safe

Drink Safe is an amazing product that goes above and beyond just alerting you if your drink had been tampered with but what exactly was put in it. This test is saving lives and giving those affected the evidence they need of what drug was used. And not to mention the tests are extremely cheap and easy to use with fast results. The prices range from $0.85-$7.50 because you get one single-use test, a coaster test, or a pack of 10 double-sided tests.

How to Use
Remove the test from the packaging and place a drop of your drink on both the A and B dot on the card. If the dot turns blue your drink has been tampered with in some way. If the dot turns green it has been spiked with GHB, pink has been spiked with Ketamine and if it says the same, your drink is safe.

What is to come!

Though not available yet, many companies are rushing to develop the first straw testing products. The straw itself will look average but when a date rape drug is detected the portion in the drink will turn read. Many companies are trying to make something of a “smart straw” so that the product is electric and can be used over and over again, this will improve sustainability and economic value of these tests.

Overall, we here at The Edge want to make sure that our readers are staying safe and smart. It is never too late to make a purchase of one of these products, it could save your life.
