Is the Digital Nomad Lifestyle Right for You?

Digital nomads are remote workers who travel on a regular basis. They use technology to perform their job and can work from foreign countries, coffee shops, libraries and anywhere else that has wifi! While digital nomads used to be perceived as millennials doing their “work” from the beach with their phone in one hand and a piña colada in the other, the understanding of digital nomads has changed. With the rise of remote work during COVID-19, many more people who used to work a standard 9 to 5 have started questioning their ‘normal’ and have started embracing this nomadic lifestyle in their everyday lives. While some people have returned to working in person, others have decided that working remotely is the path they wish to pursue. If you have the opportunity to work remotely, we suggest that you fully embrace the digital nomad lifestyle!

There are many advantages to being a digital nomad and working remotely. Rather than being stuck at a desk 24/7, you can actually travel and work from anywhere you want in the world. As long as you have wifi and discipline to stay motivated and productive, the world is truly your oyster! Being a digital nomad can also increase the quality of your life. When you have control over where you want to work, you can live wherever will make you the happiest. When you’re not working, you will also be able to experience diverse cultures and immerse yourself in situations you wouldn’t be exposed to while stuck at your desk. Being a digital nomad can also increase the quality of your work. The freedom that comes with remote work can help boost creativity, curiosity and inspiration that will translate positively into your work.

That being said, a digital nomad lifestyle is not always easy. It can be challenging to be far from your family and home. Depending on where you decide to travel, you could be a long car ride or even a plane ride away from home. Many digital nomads travel around a lot and hop from one destination to another. It can be tiring and stressful to constantly be making new travel plans to decide where you will be living and working. This remote work can also be lonely at times, especially if you decide to travel by yourself. When you are on the road, you won’t be surrounded by family and co-workers you might be used to seeing every day.
