Adele Breaks Records with Hit Single “Easy On Me”

We all know Adele; the British singer-songwriter with the rich alto voice has enticed fans for over a decade. She hadn’t released any new music since 2015, so the immediate success of her new single, “Easy On Me”, didn’t come as a surprise.

The song, which details the culmination of Adele’s marriage and acts as a message to her son, is heartbreaking, intimate, hopeful, soulful, and oh-so powerful; no wonder the song shattered the record for the most streams in a single day on Spotify. But the song isn’t just successful on Spotify, Amazon Music announced that the song received “the most first-day Alexa song requests in Amazon Music history.”

The song features raw emotion from Adele; her voice and lyrics perfectly reflect the way she sings about what is most important and personal to her experiences as a wife and mother. In the first verse, Adele details her feelings surrounding the end of her marriage and subsequent divorce. In the chorus, Adele directly addresses her son, asking him to go easy on her for the things she did not know and expect when it comes to keeping a relationship going. In the second verse, Adele speaks to her husband, singing: “There ain’t no room for things to change/When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways.” This declaration is Adele’s realization that things will not end in a sustained partnership, and she seems to have finally matured in acknowledging that. This realization is also heartbreaking; Adele sings that she’s finally given up hope that the marriage will continue.

Adele’s single is just the beginning, though; the singer announced on Instagram that her fourth studio album, 30, will be released on November 19, 2021. We don’t know much about the album’s contents yet, but if 30 is anything like “Easy On Me”, then Adele will continue to break records (as well as the hearts of millions).

The singer’s six-year hiatus from releasing new music is finally, finally over, and we at The Edge can’t wait to listen to 30 on repeat.
