Travel Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

In the digital age where we are seemingly always on the go, podcasts are very much in. They are an exceptional resource for staying educated and informed on topics you care about. Whether you are on your way to class, exercising, taking the train or just relaxing in your dorm, podcasts are super accessible and just one click of the “play” button away!

When it comes to traveling more specifically, sometimes it is easy for us to find ourselves lost in website after website, brochures and social media feeds when we are searching for tips for an upcoming trip. Recently, travel podcasts have been on the rise, so we have found a few of our favorite ones for you to check out:

1. Women Who Travel

In 2015, two editors of the Condé Nast Traveler, Lale Arikoglu and Meredith Carey, began the Women Who Travel podcast. The two women discuss various topics under travel, including what it is like to travel alone as a woman in today’s day and age, itineraries for trips in different cities and countries and all the best food options globally.

2. Amateur Traveler Travel Podcast

The Amateur Traveler podcast began in 2005 and releases episodes every Saturday morning Pacific time. The podcast sticks to a different location weekly, and always gives a week-long itinerary of each destination they cover. Episodes commonly feature an interview with someone who has either visited, is from/lives at the said destination or has written a book on it.

3. Flight of Fancy

Flight of Fancy is a traveler podcast that was created by Australian writer and blogger Ben Groundwater in 2017. Groundwater ventures the world, visiting over 80 countries in his lifetime, and has been backpacking through many as well. His podcast is less focused on destination-specific traveling, but rather highlights modern day problems and solutions that come with traveling to new places. Some of his recent episodes include “Why travel is more difficult for members of the LGBTQI+ community” and Travel boycotts - where would you refuse to go?

4. Travel with Rick Steves

Rick Steves, the famous American travel writer, activist, television personality and guidebook author, hosts his very own travel podcast Travel with Rick Steves. Every week Steves hosts travel experts from a variety of cities and countries around the world to discuss different cultures and share their experiences as well as passions about traveling.
