Holiday Season is Here so Bring Forth that Childhood Cheer!
The holiday season is approaching; it’s a time full of love, family, giving, and food. But it is also a time to cuddle up on the couch next to the fireplace and put on your favorite movie. Now, the holiday season is not a time to watch action or horror movies. It is a time to put on that Christmas movie that your parents forced you to watch every year. While this may seem unreasonable or unappealing, we at The Edge guarantee with these recommendations, you will be sprinting to your nearest television to try and catch that feeling of being a kid again.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
While Charlie Brown in all holiday movies seems to be fate’s eternal punching bag and the butt of every joke, he still finds a way to persevere. In A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown is asked to host a Thanksgiving dinner for all of his friends. He is met with feedback from his crush, Peppermint Patty, for his party not being a proper Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time to spend time with your friends and family, with no judgment, and tons of food. Charlie Brown attempted to put his own touch on Thanksgiving and was met with unnecessary criticism. While this criticism could have ruined Thanksgiving, Charlie Brown’s friends did not sit back and watch and jumped to his defense. This film, while only 20 minutes, is incredibly touching, and demonstrates the true value of friendship; never sitting back and watching your friends get hurt.
The Year Without a Santa Claus
We at The Edge are certain you have heard these lyrics, “He’s mister Heatmiser, he’s Mister Sun, he’s Mister Heat-Blister, he’s Mister Hundred and One.” If you cannot remember where this iconic verse comes from, it is from the 1970s film, The Year Without a Santa Claus. This film is one of the best Christmas movies to watch during the holiday season. It is a story about how Santa Claus decides to take a vacation from Christmas in the belief that no one cares about him. His wife, Ms. Claus, unsuccessful in convincing Santa otherwise, sends out two special elves, Jingle and Jangle, to prove that the world cannot survive without Santa Claus. Enlisting his reindeer too, Santa’s family and friends put themselves in great danger to prove to Santa that without him, children would lose their joy. This is a story that shows that you should never give up on your passions. Even if you are losing hope that what you do doesn’t matter, you never know the impact that your work can make.
It is time to stop rushing forward in your life - take a small step back, put on that fluffy sweater, and appreciate all the joy and emotions that this season brings. Yes, seasonal depression can hit like a truck, but surrounding yourself with nostalgia and positivity will bring those fuzzy feelings back into your heart. Happy Holidays!
