When to Wash Your Hair
Believe it or not, the key to having healthy hair isn’t washing it every day— it’s actually trying to wash it as little as possible. Some of us can go almost a week without feeling like we need to wash our hair, while the rest of us get oily after just a day; it just depends on hair type.
Washing your hair every day can strip your hair of its natural oils and cause it to become dry and brittle. It can also cause your hair to become oily within a matter of a day because your hair learns to expect a wash each day anyways. Waiting at least two or three days before washing your hair can train it to stay fresh-looking longer.
If you’re like us at The Edge and swear you can’t go another day without washing your hair, we think it’s time to try out some dry shampoo. Dry shampoo can extend the life of your washed hair by at least two or three days. Eventually, the dry shampoo will build up on your scalp, so you should still be conscious about how long you go before washing your hair.
Recently, we’ve been loving dry shampoos from Batiste. They just came out with a new line with a spray for all different hair colors. There’s a dry shampoo specifically for dark hair, brunettes and blondes. This can be super helpful in making sure no one notices the dry shampoo in your hair since it will match your hair color.
When you do finally wash your hair, stylists recommend giving it a rinse with cold water. The cooler the temperature of the water is, the less your hair will be stripped of its natural oils. Washing your hair sparingly and with cool water will ensure that your hair looks healthy and shiny.
