We searched for some popular beauty products that you may have, so you don’t have to! If any of your products are hazardous, we suggest you look for safer alternatives using EWG as a resource.
St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse
Aaaand another product that has an ingredient that is fully banned in another country–WTH is wrong with our cosmetic industry. Butyl-phenyl Methylpropional is classified as reprotoxic and when put in self tanner users typically leave it on their skin for three + days. I personally have also found that you lose that bad self tanning smell (we all know what I am talking about... ) when you find a safe self-tanning product.
EWG Certified Alternatives = Beauty By Earth Store Self Tanner or Glow with the Faux Foaming Self-Tanner
2. Too Faced Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss
Did we ever think that the tingly and burning sensation you get when you put this on was actually good for you?! We probably should’ve guessed– no, it is not good for us. Yellow 5 Lake is the ingredient used in this product that adds color to the formula. Yellow 5 Lake is most commonly used as food coloring and found in colored soda drinks. I think that’s enough to convince you to stop using this product…
EWG Certified Alternative = Catrice Volumizing Lip Booster
3. Benefit Dandelion Blush
This blush that you would find in all your friend’s makeup bags is surprisingly very bad for you. The ingredient Retinyl Palmitate was rated extremely hazardous in user restrictions in other nations. As you may have heard before, fragrance in beauty products is usually a no-go. The fragrance in this product was linked to allergic reactions which are really just showing how that ingredient is hurting your immune system. Is the smell that always disappears within five minutes of application really worth it?
EWG Certified Alternatives = Mineral Fusion Blush or BeautyCounter Satin Powder Blush
4. Clean & Clear Morning Burst Cleanser
A classic cleanser that is a go-to for some because it’s cheap and at all your local pharmacies. But those advantages do not weigh out the disadvantages. Ingredients in this product have been linked to speeding up the development of skin tumors and reproductive toxicity. Customers are always blindsided to popular brands and just trust them; the extra research for safer cleansers is totally worth it.
EWG Certified Alternatives = Counter start Coco cream Cleanser or Stryker Club Face Wash First (@ Target!)
5. Dry bar Detox Original Scent Dry Shampoo
So, we are just as disappointed with this one as you are. But I guess it was just too good to be true. This dry shampoo is packed with Talc, which has asbestos, a substance known to cause cancers in and around the lungs when inhaled. Aaaand, there is isobutane which was categorized as carcinogenic by the European Commission. As painful as it, toss this product in the trash ASAP.
EWG Certified Alternatives = Billie Floof Dry Shampoo
Some brands that are safe, and Edge approved ;), include Beauty Counter, Illia, Thrive Cosmetics, Billie and Glossier.
