Thankful For What They Have Been Given
At The Edge, we’re thankful for a lot of things. We get to write for this incredible magazine, be a part of an absolutely powerful group of strong men and women, and we’re able to attend a university as beautiful as Elon.
This year has been difficult for all of us. We’ve all felt the impact of this pandemic in some way or another, and sometimes the people that we wanted to support us and have our back’s weren’t there.
There have been honest and real concerns expressed about the way Elon University and its administration are running; however, it’s important to look back and realize what this university has given to us.
“Elon University has given me the opportunity to grow,” says Elon senior Sophie Erlich. “Through many Elon experiences in the classroom and laboratory I discovered my passions and grew into a proud scientist. Through my Elon experiences outside of the classroom I grew into a proud and confident leader on this campus. I now know that the lessons you learn in and out of the classroom do not need to remain separate, but they can intertwine beautifully. Along my journey through Elon, I have made incredible friends that I know will last a lifetime.”
Erlich has been a coordinator for new student orientation, completed research in biology, and is a member of College Fellows. Erlich made a conscious effort to make the most of her time at Elon and looks back now knowing that she is prepared to take on the next step.
College feels like a blink of the eye. While all our experiences are different, it seems we all never want it to end when it’s finally over.
“Elon University has given me so much, in so many different aspects of my life,” says senior Sarah Kitslar. “In my almost four years, Elon has given me lifelong best friends, incredible courses on interesting topics, but most importantly opportunities to grow as a person and explore who I am and learn what I am passionate about. The thing I love most about Elon is the community of amazing individuals it’s given me, and that is something that will stick with me long after graduation.”
We know every university has its faults and during this difficult and constantly changing world there is a need for resolution everywhere, however, the relationships and memories we’ve made are one’s to think fondly of. We will never be where we are right now and it’s important to be thankful for all of the gifts that Elon has given us big or small.
