The Packing Checklist for Any Tropical Destination

Let’s not kid ourselves, packing is a process. Not to mention, panic packing is most definitely a real thing–when you procrastinate and feel the need to bring anything and everything that comes into sight, even if the garment hasn’t seen the light of day in months. By the way, it’s a good rule of thumb, if you haven’t worn it in months (unless it’s simply screaming your destination’s name), it probably won’t get worn and will inevitably just take up space in your suitcase that’s already bursting at the seams.  If you’re someone who’s always running around in a frenzy trying to get everything organized, don’t fret… we’ve got you covered. This list of basics will ensure you have everything you need for your next beach vacay. Luggage shouldn’t be a burden as you’re gearing up to sip cocktails in the sun, with your toes in the sand. Alleviate all the worries of packing with a simple read.

Clothing

Okay, obviously this is the first and foremost consideration while packing. A general tip while packing is to create and layout outfits. This helps make sure everything has a purpose and confirms you are pleased with the creation. Now, let’s get to the must-haves.

  • Swimsuits

Of course, you’re going to be spending most of your time basking in the sun so this is a no-brainer. Whether you chose to spend your time by the beach or pool, swimsuits are a must. A good variety of styles is helpful to allow flexibility with activities. We recommend having one picked out for each day you’re there plus one extra. It’s always better to be over-prepared! Luckily, they don’t take up too much space so don’t feel the need to hold back here.

  • Basic Crop Tops

Whether you’re walking around in shorts or a skirt during the day, going for dinner in jeans, or even slumming around in sweats, basic crop tops are a necessity. Create versatile outfits by mixing and matching with any bottoms. A few neutrals as staples will make a few items go a long way.

  • Rompers/Sundresses

There’s nothing easier than slipping on a one-piece outfit after a tiring day in the sun. The convenience of a dress or a romper is unmatched. Skip the struggle of putting together an outfit, and look cute while doing it. It’s a win-win situation.

  • Sandals and Wedges

Because the vibe of many tropical destinations can be rather laid back, sandals become your best friend. They’re easy to slip on and be paired with almost any outfit. One pair of wedges are suitable for more formal occasions as most beach vacations are rarely overly formal.

  • Shorts/Skirts

Obviously, we can’t forget about bottoms, but this is the place where people tend to overpack. Try to restrain yourself from packing too many “options” because chances are you’re going to wear something more than once. Plus, with a few breezy dresses and rompers, shorts and skirts usually get pushed aside.

Accessories

  • Beach hats

(Because sunscreen can only do so much.) Not only is a sun-hat stylish but it’s also effective. Elevate your outfit to the next level while also protecting your skin.

  • Sunglasses

We recommend packing a few of your favorite pairs considering that you’re going to be wearing them every day.

  • Beach bag

This will save your life when it comes to carrying all your daily essentials around. You know that saying, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone?” This rings true for a beach tote. Going without one would be such a nuisance. If you remember anything, remember a tote to carry all your essentials.

Necessities

  • Wallet

    No explanation needed.

  • ID/Passport

Depending on where you’re traveling additional documents could be needed. Be sure to check with the airline and the country’s requirements before departure.

  • Electronics Chargers

It goes without saying that these important items will be very much needed over the course of your stay.

All in all, packing for a tropical vacation doesn’t have to be difficult, you can turn it into a fun activity by envisioning all the entertainment that awaits you on your future trip. Another way to make packing more exciting is to chat with a friend or catch up on some of your favorite recent albums or podcasts. Flipping on your favorite season of Sex and the City or Desperate Housewives is another suggestion, sure to make the time pass quickly. We hope this was helpful and alleviates some of the stress surrounding your next vacation.
