Whoever said oatmeal was boring was wrong...

Growing up we always thought oatmeal was bland and boring, but boy were we wrong!! If you haven’t added it to your breakfast rotation you truly are missing out.

We’ve all tried the classic oatmeal and overnight oats, but there's a new boss in town… baked oats! After seeing this dish all over our Tik Tok we knew we had to try it our ourselves. So, after some research we came across @traceoats. Who has been named the King of Oatmeal TikTok, because apparently there's such a thing as oatmeal TikTok? We decided it was time to put one of his recipes to the test

The beauty of baked oats is how customizable they are, we chose to make our chocolate chip banana bread. So, let's get to it...

First up, gather all of your ingredients - regardless of the flavor you choose there are three essential ingredients you will need: oats, baking soda and some type of milk. You can adjust the amount of each you want to use. We made a banana bread inspired baked oats using

 - ½ cup of gluten free rolled oats

- ½ cup of oat milk (our personal favorite is Elmhurst)

- ¼ teaspoon of baking powder

- 1 mashed banana

- splash of maple syrup

- 1 tablespoon of peanut butter.

Next step was blending all of those ingredients up in our blender. You want to go for a creamy, but not too thick texture. This might require you to add more oats or more milk, so just test it out while you blend.

Once you are all blended get yourself an (oven safe) dish and pour the mixture on in. We opted to add some chocolate chips and cinnamon to really get that homemade banana bread taste.

Pop it into the oven at around 400 and wait 20-25 minutes. Since you aren’t dealing with any raw ingredients that baking time may vary. Some people like them a little waterier where others prefer a more cake like consistency. Keep an eye on them like you would with any other baked good.

Once they are baked to your desired level add any toppings you wish. There's obviously nothing better than chocolate so we added some more chocolate chips.

After one bite we were instantly addicted. If you were blindfolded and tried these oats and a piece of banana bread were convinced you wouldn't be able to taste the difference. These are definitely going to become a breakfast staple for us at The Edge.

For those mornings when you have a little bit more time baked oats are definitely the way to go. The options are ENDLESS and there’s basically no way to make them wrong...
