Breaking Down How Instagram Shopping Works

Instagram’s always trying out new things when it comes to adding new and old additions. One of the best features they’ve added so far was Instagram Shopping. Not only is this addition great for businesses, as Instagram users can easily shop company’s photos through the app, but it’s great for us shoppers too! We no longer have to go through the long search to track down where specific clothing is from; instead it’s all right there on the picture! Plus, the shop selection Instagram offers is all personalized to your own preferences, making it convenient to shop brands and products that you love.

Here’s how it works: Businesses are able to promote their products through an Instagram photo where they can provide the details of the product and the price. From there, users are able to click on the link which will take them to the website where they can buy the product. The newest edition to the feature is Instagram Checkout which allows users to actually buy products without leaving the Instagram app. Instagram users are able to tap on the product from the shoppable post and continue to the payment process, all without opening a website. Buying directly from Instagram offers a seamless experience, and many brands are offered through it. Another great addition is the Wishlist. You’re able to save items that you want to see again, almost serving as one big shopping cart.

Instagram’s shopping options include a variety of ways to explore products. You can shop directly on the business profile using that Instagram Checkout, click on the shopping tags that are on the Instagram picture which will bring you to the website, and/or browse the Instagram explore page. The explore page is the best source for finding new stores since they’re posts from accounts that you don’t follow. The Instagram explore page provides personalized recommendations for every Instagram individual, allowing you to find new and trending fashion items customized to your previous likes and follows.

In a world where everything’s online, Instagram was smart to add this feature. Not only are big name brands like Abercrombie, Urban Outfitters, Princess Polly, etc. using the feature, but there are a ton of small businesses as well. I’ve found some of my cutest fashion pieces and accessories through boutiques, and Instagram Shopping has only helped me find even more small businesses.

One downside to the curated product collections, is everything can catch your eye and you’ll end up wanting to buy just about everything! But hey, is that reallllyyy a problem?! Open up your Instagram app, get scrolling, but more importantly, get shopping!
