As the weather gets warmer and we enter the summer months, food truck season in North Carolina has arrived. Throughout the state, the food truck scene has grown tremendously over the last few years. North Carolina food trucks offer a wide variety of culinary choices, satisfying almost any sort of craving you may have. From barbecue, to acai bowls, to Mexican, to sweet desserts, the food trucks dispersed around the state give customers a plethora of options to choose, from more metropolitan cities like Raleigh to right here in our backyard, Burlington. We’ve compiled a list of some food trucks across North Carolina that you must check out:
Buoy Bowls
Roaming the streets of the Raleigh-Durham area, it’s hard to miss the bright purple Buoy Bowls food truck. Buoy Bowls is perfect when it's time to give into your acai bowl cravings. This food truck offers a wide variety of beautiful bowls made up of superfoods acai and pitaya. We can’t forget about those who prefer drinking their fruits. The menu also includes smoothies made with, of course, organic and locally grown ingredients. The food truck prides itself on serving food that not only tastes delicious, but also fuels your body in a healthy manner. Additionally, Buoy Bowls includes environmental responsibility as a part of their company’s vision. Try to think of something that tastes better than Buoy Bowls on a sweltering summer day, (we can’t).

Mike’s Vegan Cookout
Among all the great North Carolina food trucks stands tall arguably the best vegan option, Mike’s Vegan Cookout. You can catch this lime green and black truck out and about making appearances all across the state, from Charlotte to Greensboro, and even right here in Burlington (where owner Mike Roach is from!). Mike’s Vegan Cookout offers specialty burgers, hotdogs, and french fries. Some fan favorites of Mike’s include the Carolina Burger and Hotdog, and Fiesta Fries. Both animal friendly and flavourful cookout style food, Mike’s creations are unlike any other.

The Morning After
Making its way around the Triad of NC, The Morning After is one of the state’s only breakfast style food trucks around. Any fans of eggs and bacon would absolutely die for anything on The Morning After’s Menu. Its menu is full of classic breakfast dishes with a spin earning them creative names—some favorites including the Walk of Shame (chicken belgian waffles), Plan B (breakfast sandwich with eggs, chese, and bacon), and Hangover (hand-cut potato fries). Do you see where it gets its name from now? We applaud a theme that is so consistent throughout the brand. Dusty Donuts
What’s better than just one regular sized donut? A handful of these scrumptious bite-sized rings. The Dusty donuts food truck based out of Chapel Hill is frequently found in locations around Alamance County, especially in Mebane this season (less than a half hour away from campus). Here, donuts come by the dozen, a few specialities include the Reese and S’more’s Delights. Customize your own “Dusty Delight'' with signature sugars like pumpkin spice or cinnamon and drizzles like buttercream or marshmallow. Next time you’re craving donuts, we promise the drive to Dusty’s is more than worth it.

Queso Monster
Known for their “Mexican cuisine with a twist”, the Queso Monster food truck can be found at various locations throughout the Raleigh-Durham area. The Queso Monster food truck has been on the streets of North Carolina since 2016, when owners Miguel Lopez and Patricia Martinez established the truck. The food truck is famous for its quesadilla and taco specialties, such as the signature “Queso Monster Quesadilla” and the “Chipotle Chicken”. Whether you’re a meat lover or herbivore Queso Monster has a zesty fare for everyone.
