The Oscar’s 2021 Top Five Makeup & Hair Looks

Last Sunday, April 25th, marked the 93rd Academy Awards. We were more excited than ever to see how celebrities would pop off after a year with fewer red carpet events than usual. They were able to ditch the masks as they socially distanced, so we could see it all. We saw bold red lips and pastel eyeshadow to sleek pony’s and braids.

Zendaya absolutely blew us away. Her no-makeup makeup look perfectly fits the skin minimalism revolution that we have been obsessed with recently. Celebrity makeup artist Sheika Daley chose very neutral-toned palettes to work with. First, they prepped her skin with a gel-based sheet and eye masks to hydrate and brighten her base, followed by a serum that instantly readies the skin for foundation. Daley told Glamour she "wanted to keep things neutral to balance out [Zendaya's] bold dress, and used Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Terre De Sienne and French Nude to add subtle definition to her eyes." Like the eyes, Daley maintained a natural look on her lips. Waiving the classic Red carpet bold lipstick look certainly paid off as Euphoria fans were in awe of her glossy-plumped lips.

Twitter and Instagram went crazy for Regina King’s razor-cut bob done by Larry Sims. Her cut rested about two inches above her shoulders to let no one be distracted by her Louis Vuitton gown. But… the cut may have been too good to be a distraction ploy. Throughout quarantine, the EDGE team has been watching bob cuts come back in style, and King may have confirmed with this jet-black, middle part and razor-cut bob that they are. You can copy this look yourself with a detangler to get rid of any knots, flat iron and hair oil smooth any flyaways.

Margot Robbie debuted her new eyelash-grazing bangs on the Red Carpet. Complemented with her new honey-tinted coloring and loose-wavy ponytail, she has set the bar high for her following Red Carpet looks. As always, she sported Chanel makeup and attire. Makeup artist Pati Duboff created a warm-toned aesthetic solely using Palette Essentielle Chanel; he told Vogue “It's kind of like an everything palette—and that was what I used on her cheeks, as a bronzer, as a sneaky contour, and around her eyes.” As summer approaches, we are totally here for makeup that can deliver us a sun-kissed glow!

Not many couples can say their first date night as parents were spent at the Oscars… but Leslie Odom Jr. and Nicolette Robinson can. Both of them were gleaming with joy as they walked hand and hand down the Red Carpet. Robinson’s makeup was nothing but perfection; her brows were trimmed and arched with great precision, and her lids were painted with captivating smokey-brown eyeshadow. Makeup aside, the couple sported matching braids… really… this simply cannot be beaten.

We saw lots of middle parts and low-pony’s, but close to zero curly up-do’s with bangs, which makes Andra Day’s look even more striking. Hairstylist Tony Medina told us exactly how to perfect this style ourselves; he used a Schwarzkopf oil, followed by OSiS Elastic Spray. He finished with the Magic Anti Frizz Serum to keep the curls alive throughout the whole event. Like Margot Robbie, Day used an array of Chanel’s eyeshadow palettes to deliver that no-makeup makeup look. The subtle makeup was a bit underwhelming compared to the hair, but the contrasting vibes worked well as it allowed the hair to be the greatest part of her look.
