Award Show Fashion: The Emmy's Edition

Another day, another red carpet! Award shows have two main purposes, to give recognition to talented people and to see what those talented people decide to wear. This year celebrities and designers went all out! Maybe after so many award shows being virtual, without the thrill of the red carpet, designers were ready to make statements with their designs. The overwhelming theme for this year's Emmys was color. From vibrant reds to royal blues, colors were everywhere! The Emmys took place last Sunday, September 19th, and since then there has been a buzz about all the looks that were seen walking down the red carpet. Below are just some highlights from the amazing designs that were seen during the show!

Nicole Byer showed up this year ready to take breaths away! This vibrant, royal purple, encapsulates what everyone means when they say that this year's Emmys looks were “colorful”. Her dress, designed by Christian Siriano, was made out of tulle and sheer fabrics which allowed it to have an indescribable flow as she moved down the red carpet. Siriano did a beautiful job of layering the tulle throughout the dress to give it different textures, which added a whole new level to the look. Byer paired this dress with very minimal makeup and jewelry, just enough to add a little sparkle to her look while still keeping her dress as the main focus!

Anya Talyor-Joys, never disappoints on the red carpet! This year she walked the red carpet in a gorgeous Dior Haute Couture dress which she actually had some design input in. Taylor-Joy worked with the iconic house to help put together the look which included a light-toned yellow halter top dress and a stunning bold yellow cape, reminiscent of a dress from the 1960s (possibly inspired by her upcoming movie which features her traveling back to this era). Taylor-Joy's look is no small feat, not only was the design of the dresses intricately detailed, but there was also a huge potential for the two colors of yellow to clash instead of coming together as we see they do to create an overall stunning look!

Speaking of drawing inspiration from another decade! Yara Shahidi showed up to the red carpet in a gorgeous emerald green Dior Haute Couture gown, whose hem length as well as neckline are a huge nod to ones seen during the 1950s. Her gown had a unique top with asymmetrical sheer sleeves that further elevated the look. Like many of the looks that were seen, Shahidi let her dress be the center of the show and kept makeup and jewelry minimal, however her Tiffany necklace brought everything together to produce one gorgeous red carpet show stopper!

The women were not the only ones to go all out at this year's Emmys! The men in attendance brought it just as much, playing with different colors, fabrics, and styles. One of those male showstoppers was Jason Sudeikis who dressed a little differently than his last Emmy outfit which featured an amazing tie dye sweatshirt designed by his sister! This year he decided to go for something a little different and walked the red carpet in a gorgeous blue, velvet, Tom Ford suit - we love a guy who can effortlessly pull off both casual and classy looks! His suit was beautifully designed and tailored, and to top it off he paired it with an oversized bowtie making it even more unique!

Josh O’Connor in Loewe

At first glance this may look like just another black suit, which is somewhat out of place for this year's theme, but Josh O’Connors look by Loewe is all about the details! Starting with the top of the suit, he decided to ditch conventional tie options and instead chose a bolo flower tie, a creative spin on men wearing a flower pinned to their lapel. Speaking of lapels! O’Connors’ were made half out of silk and half out of a matte fabric adding a little spice to the overall look. As you continue down you will see that he opted for a double breasted squared tailcoat, instead of your basic blazer look. Although O'Connor may not have experimented with color, no one could deny the creativity and details that were put into this look to make it unique in its own way!

Lastly, but certainly not least, we have Leslie Odom Jr. who ditched his beloved turtle neck and instead showed up in a white Dolce and Gabbana suit from the Fall 2021 Alta Sartoria Collection. This was by far one of the most detailed menswear looks, with crystal embellishments being included in his shirt, jacket, pants, and shoes! His suit steers clear from your normal penguin suit in both color and texture and is leading the way for more unconventional menswear looks!
