Shadow Liner Is in, Traditional Liner Is Out

Soft, smooth and stunning. That can be quite the opposite of what your eyeliner looks like after the 5th time of rubbing it off with makeup remover. We know, eyeliner is tricky especially when steadiness and precision aren’t your thing. We’ve been there and it's frustrating. That's why when we were introduced to eyeshadow eyeliner, we never looked back!

We were first introduced to eyeshadow eyeliner, by micro-influencer Sydney Schiro. Her Tik Tok and Instagram are great places to pull makeup inspo from. She is the queen of eyeshadow cat wings and we’re here for it. When we think of a traditional cat wing, we think of a dark and defined line across your eyelid. Eyeliner with eyeshadow, however, is quite the opposite. Instead, it is soft and willing to work with you.

Not only is eyeshadow eyeliner more user-friendly, it is also a bang for your buck. You no longer need to go out and buy a bunch of different eyeliner shades. All you have to do is grab your favorite eyeshadow palette and you're ready to work!

All you need is an angled eyeliner brush, an eyeshadow palette and an eyeshadow primer. Begin by priming your eyes and creating your ideal eyeshadow look. Urban Decay’s Naked 3 Mini Eyeshadow Palette is a favorite with its mix of soft rosy neutrals, perfect for any look you are trying to achieve. Once you are done with your base, it's time to get to the good part!

Let's Get After It!

Take your angled brush and dip it into the shade of your choice. Make sure to tap off the excess; you don’t want it falling on your face while applying.

Winging It

Take your angled brush to the outer corner of your eyelid (edge below your crease) and glide it towards the end of your eyebrow. Create the desired length of your wing based on your personal preference.

Practice Makes Perfect

Start at the end of your wing, and brush your angled brush back to the corner of your lid to thicken the line. You now have created your wing. Don’t worry if it's messy or you don't like it! You can easily rub it off with your finger or q-tip. It might take you a few tries to create the wing of your dreams and that's okay.

Almost There

The final step is the actual eyelid. Start at the inner corner of your eye and follow your eyelid to the outside corner where your wing starts. Keep the brush as close to your eyelash line as possible. Lastly, you want to go back over your eyelid with your brush one last time to make sure your eyeliner is clean and visible.

Pro tip: darker eyeshadow colors like black, brown, purple or emerald green show up better. However, if you do want a lighter color, it is still doable! Just make sure to do a few layers so you are able to fully see the beautiful shade you choose.

This makeup hack is our new go-to! You won’t see us returning to regular eyeliner ever again and we hope you feel the same after you give it a try. Be patient with yourself and trust the process. You got this, queen!
