College Style 101

College is a time to start exploring your style. This can get difficult, especially with everything else going on—class, homework, partying, sleeping, etc. Fashion is typically put on the back burner. But no longer! We’ve put together an equation for the perfect everyday outfit that is simple but effective.

Boys, take notes.

Shirts:

Let’s start from the top. What you choose to wear on top can make or break your outfit, so we have several suggestions. The options are endless, so choose based on your style.

You heard it here first, you can never go wrong with a simple white t-shirt. A well-fitting, white t-shirt will never go out of style, and it is probably the easiest thing to throw on. Another option, if you want to upgrade a little bit, a graphic t-shirt is also a great piece to wear. We linked an example because there is a certain kind of graphic tee we’re talking about. It’s an art, but we believe in you.

What about a nice button up? We love this option! A colored (or plain) button up is always a great choice to make you look like you have your sh*t together—minimum effort for maximum reward. You could even layer a button up with a t-shirt underneath to add some interest.

Finally, unpopular opinion, sweaters look gooood. A slightly oversized sweater with a simple pattern, if any, is a great option for colder weather. Layer a thrifted v-neck over a white t-shirt or button up and BOOM. Fire fit. Just do it—trust us. Also, if you don’t own any sweaters or they aren’t really your style, a simple crewneck is just as effective.

Pants:

We got through the toughest part in our opinion, picking the shirt, so now it’s all downhill from here. There are a couple options for bottoms that are tried and true options.

First, athletic shorts. We’ve seen the 5-inch inseam trend for a couple years now, keep that one up. Another simple option that is similar to the athletic shorts is sweatpants. Gray sweatpants will never go out of style. Pair that with a crew neck or graphic tee and you’re good to go. Both are cheap, easy, and comfortable options if you are in a rush to get to your 8am.

JEANS. It seems like everyone forgets about jeans when they are such a solid option for easy stylish outfits. A light wash straight-leg jean (NOT A SKINNY JEAN PLEASE) is a great choice to make your outfit look more thought out.

Finally, slacks. Nothing crazy, just a simple black pair of slacks (that are tailored well) is SO stylish. Now, this is obviously a more ~elevated~ choice, so if you aren’t comfortable with being in the slacks boat yet, we totally understand. Literally all the other options are just as good (when styled right).

Shoes:

You can never go wrong with a good pair of sneakers. But which one do you choose? We have a couple recommendations. All of them are kind of similar but work with different styles, so choose your player.

New Balance 300 Court:

Nike Dunk Low Retros:

Adidas Sambas:

Accessories:

Hats are a great accessory that most college guys already own, so this should be a simple addition to the outfit. Baseball caps are a classic accessory to any outfit—maybe even see if you can match the hat with something else in your outfit—like a color in your graphic tee or shoes! Beanies are also a great option for the fall, add a black beanie to any outfit to give that ~artsy skater vibe~ that’s been trending.

Jewelry. Something that’s starting to be talked about more in the men’s fashion world but needs the spotlight for a second. A simple chain, a ring or two, and a good watch will TRANSFORM your look and we promise that. So just do it, there’s plenty of simple cheap options on amazon. The bang for your buck.

If you made it this far, congratulations. You will now be the most stylish guy on campus. Send us your new fits!! @theedgemag
