The Ultimate Spotify Playlists for College Students Who Know These Feelings All too Well
Music is the soundtrack to our lives. Whether it’s that situationship you’re in with your crush, you’re angry at the world, or you woke up late for class, put on these playlists to tell your story. Here are three Spotify playlists for universal situations that we all face.
#1: The situationship. Up to your own interpretation.
Here at The Edge, we’ve all been through that “almost relationship” with the boy we like, maybe even think we love for a split second. This first playlist tells a story about the exciting butterflies you first get before it quickly turns into complications. Those mixed feelings turn into confusion, and then it’s like you never existed. Situationships suck.
The playlist starts off with Daniel Caesar’s “Japanese Denim,” a soulful love song that describes the first few days perfectly. Quickly, the songs take a turn. “What’s My Name?” by Rihanna & Drake and “That Way” by Tate McRae emote the confusion between a friend and a significant other. Then comes the realization. “Sparks” by Coldplay is a bittersweet understanding of your current state. With any situationship comes anger. “Nights like This” by Kehlani and “Heartless” by Kanye West show both sides of the story. We hope this playlist helps with any heartbreak, love or the uncertain.
#2: When you're late to class and you have to speed like your life depends on it.
Everyone has woken up late, snoozing your alarm clock and realizing what time it was. You realize you’re 10 minutes late to class and have to run as fast as you can. You could go back to sleep but … class is important. Put on your running sneakers and channel your inner track star.
This playlist has the best party songs to get you amped up and on the move. Save some of these for the weekend. “The Spins” by Mac Miller is a classic. Next, comes “Losing It” by FISHER and “OUT OUT” by Joel Corry & Jax Jones, two EDM-style songs that will put a pep in your step. You can never forget “A Thousand Miles'' by Vanessa Carlton, ironic and so fitting. We have songs for when you’re getting close to the classroom and the anticipation is taking over. Modjo’s “Lady-Hear Me Tonight” by Modjo and “Cooler Than Me” by Mike Posner are a breath of relief. You made it to class. Now comes the 20 or so eyes on you when you walk into the room panting. Good luck.
#3: For times when you're so angry you don’t know why.
There are days when you see red. There’s no reason, or there’s many, but you just are. No one can convince you to not stop being mad or help you out. It’s a party of two - you and your anger. This playlist is filled with songs to get you riled up and let it all out. Go blast these songs on your speaker at the loudest volume it can go and piss your neighbor off for a few minutes. You deserve it.
In this playlist we have the classics “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana and “In The End” to scream to. Let it all out. Going to a different genre, the female anthems like “We Are Never Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift and “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo can really fuel your madness. We included some rap songs to get the rage out. We suggest rapping every lyric to “I Don’t F**k With You” by Big Sean and “DNA” by Kendrick Lamar … it really helps. Some other tracks to include in your pissed-off playlist are “abcdefu” by GAYLE and “Heartless” by Morgan Wallen. Two very different options but such amazing tunes.
We hope these playlists help you through these college situations. Enjoy.
