Reaching 10,000 steps a day (equivalent to roughly five miles of walking) is a great way to keep the heart pumping and stay in shape. Other than its physical benefits, walking can allow people to clear their minds and improve their mental state. Going on a walk with friends, listening to music or a podcast, or simply walking in silence can bring peace and relief to the body. It’s a breath of fresh air that helps release stress and tension, decreasing anxiety and depression. 

The physical and mental benefits of walking have been discussed for ages by physicians and fitness professionals.
