Are You on “Gym-Tok”?
Throwback to the beginning of quarantine when people were obsessed with the Chloe Ting workouts and amazon workouts sets. We did those workouts for weeks, because let’s be honest- there wasn’t much else to do. But now that people are back in the gym, let's talk about working out.
For us avid TikTok users, “Gymtok” has us in a chokehold, but in the best way possible. While workout videos definitely are not for everyone, they have become a huge motivating factor in encouraging other people to workout and start their journey to a healthier lifestyle. Instead of promoting extreme exercise and weight loss tips - people have started posting their real, unfiltered workout routines. Progress videos, before and after pictures that show real life people, putting in the work to see a change. Most of these videos focus on ways to gain muscle mass and get stronger, rather than ways to lose weight or show restrictive eating habits. People are obsessed with showing their progress and “gains” all over TikTok, and it has really blown up. Tips for the best pre-workouts, leg day routines and of course cute workout sets have been all over our FYPs, and it is hard not to feel motivated watching these videos. From the 12-3-30, to treadmill workouts and dumbbell squats the amount of workout tips are never ending. We read through some of the comments on these videos, to see lots of supportive feedback, and people sharing their journey as well.
Maybe it’s just our FYPs, but there are SO many gym girlies posting helpful workout tips and tricks, and girls supporting girls on each other’s videos. Especially starting out, going to the gym can be daunting. Constantly feeling out of place or self conscious is normal in the beginning. Lifting is super popular right now, so there are lots of videos on where to start and exercises to target the glutes or quads. Booty gains are we right? It’s normal to feel awkward or self conscious in the beginning, but let’s be honest, everyone is so focused on themselves that honestly nobody is looking or cares what the person next to them is doing. We promise!
Workout “routines” used to be all about dieting and over exercising in order to lose weight, so it is really refreshing to see people promoting healthy forms of exercise. Especially seeing people wanting to workout and post videos because it makes them happy instead of feeling like they have to. Exercise releases endorphins, so it SHOULD make you happy!
