Everybody loves and feels loved in different ways. Love isn’t the same for everyone. Overall, it’s hard to define in just one sentence. It’s complicated, intense and means something different to each person. The best way to truly define love is through its characterization in the five different love languages.

The five love languages include quality time, words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, and physical touch. Understanding your primary love language can help you define what you truly need from a relationship. Understanding the love language of your partner or those you love can help you realize what they need from you.

Quality Time

People who value quality time as their love language cherish time with their partners and people they love. Quality time is really just being there. There's no need to do anything extravagant or expensive. Just simply taking time out of your day to spend with the person you love is the most important thing to those who value quality time as their love language.

Words of Affirmation

Words of affirmation involves verbal expressions of love. Saying phrases like “I love you” or “I appreciate you” to your partner who values words of affirmation as their love language is the perfect way to cherish them. Words of affirmation are a great way to show your partner reassurance.

Acts of Service

Doing things like making your partner coffee or switching their laundry can make their day. Acts of service simply means doing things to make your partner's life easier and help out. If you prefer acts of service as your love language, you feel loved when people help you out.

Gifts

People who value gifts as their love language feel love through physical gifts. Getting someone a token while on a trip or seeing something that reminds you of them and giving it as a gift shows that you really know your partner. People who express love through gifts show how much they care about their partner through gift-giving.

Physical Touch

Physical touch is when someone physically expresses their love to you. Whether it be through kisses, back rubs, or hugs throughout the day, this shows your partner that you care about them. Physical touch is a great way to express your feelings  to someone who needs to physically feel love.

The way you give love can be different from how you receive it. You may prefer to receive love through time and words of affirmation, but you may need to give love through physical touch and gifts if that's how your partner feels love.
