How to Host The Perfect Picnic
Summer is approaching, and you know what that means—IT’S PICNIC SEASON! Picnics are a great way to get together with friends, dress up in cute outfits and enjoy some yummy food. They’re also an opportunity to get creative: You can have a theme (we at The Edge love a good red, white and blue theme around the 4th of July), try out some new recipes and even build an extravagant set up. No matter what direction you decide to go, we definitely have you covered with these tips and tricks.
Step 1: Determine the location
For this step, it’s important to consider the backdrop of your photos (because let’s be real, you definitely will be taking pictures). With your Instagram feed considered, you can choose to go a more neutral-toned route, like a sandy beach. If you’re looking for a more vibrant background, a park with lots of natural greenery might be a better option. Just remember, it’s always about the people, not the place.
Step 2: Pick out your outfit
Picnics are all about pops of color. You definitely want to wear something that stands out. Satin slip dresses are extremely popular right now— they’re the perfect combination of comfy and elegant, but not too over-the-top. Florals, like Love Shack Fancy (on the high end) or For Love & Lemons dresses also would make the perfect statement.
Step 3: The setup
Picnics can be so much more than just spreading a blanket on the ground. There’s unlimited potential for what you can do in terms of your setup. If you’re balling on a budget, you can go to your local dollar store and buy some fake flowers to spruce up your boring white bed sheet. If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, you can prop up an umbrella or build a cute tent. The boujee folks might even decide to hire one of the many companies that specialize in table decor, one example being @elaborateoutings.
Step 4: The food
Food is, undoubtedly, the most important part of the picnic. We highly suggest having a charcuterie board. There are so many different variations and designs you can choose from. There are even Instagram users that make a living off of creating these delicious, highly elegant spreads. Check out this past article from The Edge for some more inspiration. And, of course, don’t forget the rosé to compliment your cheeseboard.
Having a picnic is not only a fun activity to do with friends, but it’s also a temporary mental escape from reality. It encourages relaxation, laughter and the opportunity to be outdoors and get some fresh air. So, what are you waiting for? Go plan your picnic!
