Reset Day Rituals

It’s that time of the season again, when the leaves change from green to brown and our serotonin levels slowly start to decrease. In fact, it was estimated by the HHS Office of Population Affairs that over 50 percent of all teens are diagnosed with mental health disorders, and it’s important to recognize this during this time of year. It’s so easy to fall into a trap with ourselves and lose sense of who we are; we all have those off days. With this being said, The Edge has created a series of “reset day rituals'' for whenever we fall into this mindset during this time of year.

An Activity to Do

Journaling is so underrated and so worth it. If a therapist recommends it, we’ll do it. Sometimes, laziness tends to overcome us as rotting in bed and going on our phones over journaling always seems like an easier option. However, once people begin to journal every day, whether it be on the bad or good days, there is a major shift in motivation and mental health. Journaling is a great way to start and end the day!

A Recipe to Try

While we aren’t necessarily certified chefs, this biscuit recipe is the only one we’ll swear by. Click here to find the recipe. IT’S DELICIOUS!

A Product to Use

After a long day of classes, we always love to have a relaxing self-care night and treat ourselves to a face mask. Our favorite mask is made by a vegan and cruelty-free company, FarmHouse Fresh, and is called GuacStar. We highly recommend this product to help clear your pores and your brain after a long day.

A Workout to Attempt

Yoga is scientifically proven to help with someone’s mental well-being. In fact, according to doctors leading research at the American Osteopathic Association, “Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, increases body awareness, relieves chronic stress patterns, relaxes the mind, centers attention and sharpens concentration.” To practice yoga, we would recommend taking a class through Elon or going to Feel Better Yoga in Burlington, where they offer $10 classes for students on Sundays.

A Thing to Buy

Flowers always brighten up a home and can be found at the farmers market in downtown Elon on Thursdays, or they can be picked right outside!

A Place to Go

If you have access to a car on campus, Lake Macintosh is a quick drive away and offers a peaceful sanctuary with an invitation to get away from campus for a little while and go read a good book by the water. More locally, Lake Mary Nell or Lake Verona are great places to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon.
