Tate McRae: The New Princess of Pop
If you’re anything like us at The Edge, you’ve been obsessing over Tate McRae and her unbelievably addicting music — definitely NOT screaming the lyrics in the car and in the shower. With the recent release of her sophomore album, “Think Later,” her music is all the rage right now, and rightfully so.
Let’s rewind a little and talk about how McRae gained her fame. Although she is an incredibly talented singer, that is not how she got her career started. She is a classically trained dancer who appeared on “So You Think You Can Dance” at just 13 years old. Despite being eliminated, she was a standout dancer from that season, and viewers knew that would not be the last time they saw her name in lights.
Let’s fast forward to 2020. Her single, “You Broke Me First,” became an international sensation, landing her on the Billboard Hot 100. Just a year later, she was the youngest musician featured on Forbes 30 under 30, a notable accomplishment for a teenager at the time. McRae has teamed up with musical icon Ryan Tedder to co-write and produce her latest album. Her goal is for her young audience to feel her raw emotion through her music and relate to the feelings of falling in love for the first time and, of course, experiencing the gut-wrenching emotions of going through your very first heartbreak.
McRae has simultaneously become a TikTok sensation, known for teasing snip-its of her highly anticipated songs. Before her hit single “Greedy” was released, a 20 second clip of the chorus had already been streamed 30 million times on TikTok.
Tate McRae is a performer. Her music videos and live appearances are utterly captivating, as she knows how to wow a crowd with both singing and dancing — much like the icons of the century, Beyoncé and Shakira. Music industry professionals are wildly impressed with her talent and mature composure at just 20 years old, and many see a promising career ahead of her.
You can call her a triple threat. Not only is she a skilled singer and dancer, but she also dabbles in acting. Are we looking at the next JLo? Time will tell. In the meantime, we’ll be streaming her album, “Think Later,” non-stop!
