All About Face Masks

There’s a new trend on the rise: masks — specifically, the beauty kind. Masks have become a hit skincare sensation. You name it, there’s probably a mask for it! Here at The Edge, we love skincare and keeping our skin healthy and clean. So, let’s talk about why we love face masks so much and share some of our favorite brands to buy.

What is a face mask? A face mask is a mask applied in order to clean, smooth or hydrate the skin. There are so many different types of skincare masks, so it’s hard to keep up. They are the perfect product for setting a 30-minute timer, putting on a mask and watching your favorite Netflix show right after a relaxing shower. Sounds like a great night to us. So, what skincare mask should you choose?

Sheet Mask

Sheet masks essentially are single-use sheets supplemented with certain ingredients. These masks are quick and easy, providing your skin an immediate boost of moisture and hydration. Some masks have fun animals, designs and colors, too. Our favorites include the Pixi Brightening and & Firming Vitamin-C Mask and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask.

Clay Mask

Clay masks are great for oily skin as they help absorb excess oils, unclog pores and mattify acne. We recommend using this type of mask one to two times a week depending on your skin type. Our personal favorite clay masks are the Tatcha Clarifying Clay Mask, the Youth to the People Superclay Purify and Clear Power Mask and the Innisfree Volcanic AHA Pore Clearing Clay Mask

Charcoal Mask

Charcoal masks are another beneficial option for oily skin. Similar to clay masks, the magical ingredient of charcoal cleans pores and removes dirt and oils. We promise that this mask is so worth it. The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Mask and the Olay Charcoal Facial Mask Stick are two amazing products.

Cream Mask

Creamy wash-off masks have a wide variety of beneficial ingredients, particularly for people with dry and sensitive skin. Cream masks are gentle yet effective as they tone, lift and hydrate the skin. We love the Glossier Moisturizing Moon Mask and the Ahava Hydration Cream Mask

Sleeping Mask

Overnight face masks have become a part of our daily night routine. Overnight face masks are infused with powerful ingredients to clean skin over the course of the night. We have a lot of favorite masks for you. They are all infused with all different ingredients but are equally amazing. These include the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow AHA Night Treatment, the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask and the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask.

Peel-Off Mask

Peel-off masks are used to exfoliate the skin, leaving it as smooth and glowy as ever. They are similar to an exfoliant, but they peel and remove dead cells on the outer layer of your skin. However, for people with sensitive skin, we recommend not to use this type of mask as it might irritate your skin easily. Our favorite peel-off masks are the florence by mills Mind Glowing Peel Off Mask, the Versed Shortcut Overnight Facial and the Sulwhasoo Clarifying Peel Off Mask.

Skincare is so important, and we hope you love some of these face masks as much as we do. Let us know your favorite mask products, and tag us @theedgemag!
