The Hidden, Student-Friendly Gems of Burlington NC

As Elon students, we all know the basic places on campus to grab food like the dining halls or other retail locations such as Clohan Market, Acorn and Irazu. It’s easy to get a little tired of the same things, so we are here to give you some tips and tricks to utilize your student discount at locations off campus.

If you are in the mood for something other than the Qdoba on campus, there is a burrito joint known as Go Burrito located in the Burlington Food Hall and Commissary Kitchen. This cute little spot has authentic Mexican cuisine and fun drink options, too! The best part is their burritos are all under $10. That sounds like a steal compared to the (guilty) weekly $18 we spend on Chipotle every weekend.

Our next secret for some self care is Phoenix Nails and Tanning Gallery, which are both located just outside of Elon. If you are feeling like treating yourself, they take Phoenix Cash.

If you are in the mood to go out with your friends, Drake’s, located on Boone Street, is a fun bar to go to with tons of food options as well. We recommend their fried pickles and wings.

If you are in the mood to restock on some groceries, Harris Teeter sadly does not take Phoenix Cash. But, if you register for an E-VIC card with your student ID, you will receive five to 10 percent off your grocery items.

Lastly, Burlington Beer Works is a must hit for avid brunch goers. This place has such a nice aesthetic and amazing food options. We love their truffle fries and pub pretzels. The mimosas also add some spice to your Saturday. We love this place, and it is a lifesaver because it takes Phoenix Cash.

These are just a few of our recommendations if you are feeling like branching out from Magerks or Freshii (not that we don’t love those spots, as we happily devour the Magerks Southwest Nachos weekly). If you have any more hidden gems that accept Phoenix Cash or offer student discounts, feel free to send them our way @theedgemag!
