Have you been searching for a new show to binge watch, but nothing seems to be entertaining enough? Well luckily for you, we have the perfect answer for that — telenovelas! Many Latinos grew up watching telenovelas. Over-the-top plot twists and dramatic acting that made it hard to believe what was happening are the key aspects of telenovelas. Telenovelas are a type of soap opera that are rooted in Latin American culture. This is a short list of some of the most iconic telenovelas that are a must-watch or rewatch! 

Teresa 

By far, this is one of the most iconic telenovelas to exist. This telenovela follows the story of Teresa, who is a beautiful woman that is desperate to become rich — meaning that no one is safe. She is deceitful and greedy. All she wants is financial security, but who doesn’t? Maybe a normal person wouldn’t take the approach Teresa takes, but she's kind of iconic for that. Rubí

“Rubí” is also a classic! This telenovela follows Rubí Perez, an ambitious woman who tries to get out of her impoverished state by using her seductive skills. Her dream is to marry a rich man. You can watch “Rubí” on VIX or YouTube TV.  

Marimar

“Marimar” is the story of Marimar who lives with her poor grandparents in a hut by the ocean. She falls in love with a rich man named Sergio, but his parents disapprove of the relationship and try to humiliate her. You can watch “Marimar” on VIX, Sling, fuboTV or YouTube TV. 

Yo Soy Betty, la Fea 

This show follows Betty as she falls in love with her boss and transforms her physical appearance. There have been various remakes of this telenovela in many countries. Some adaptations include “La fea mas bella” from Mexico and “Ugly Betty,” which is an adaptation created in the U.S. You can stream “Yo Soy Betty, la Fea” on NBC online or Peacock.                                              

Rebelde 

This telenovela follows six students that attend a prestigious boarding school. It follows the journey of these six kids becoming a band. “Rebelde” is a Mexican remake of the original show “Rebelde Way,” which originated in Argentina. This telenovela has everything you can think of — romance, music and plenty of drama! It’s definitely a must-watch. You can find Rebelde on VIX, Sling, fuboTV and YouTube TV.
