Why Lake Muskoka, Canada is a Must-Visit

Summer in Canada is simply the definition of perfection.  The weather is comfortably warm, with daytime temperatures typically hovering between 77 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and evenings that bring a refreshing coolness. We believe Canada is one of the most underrated summer destinations, offering beauty and serenity that often goes unnoticed. For many of us, it’s just a short trip North — a nearby escape waiting to be explored. While skiing on the West Coast during winter is undeniably breathtaking, there’s nothing quite like a summer spent on Lake Muskoka. It’s an experience that stands apart — trust us, it’s THE BEST spot for summer vacation.

Lake Muskoka is a picturesque Canadian paradise located between Port Carling and Gravenhurst, Ontario — about a two-hour drive from Toronto, the biggest city in Canada. The name “Muskoka” comes from an indigenous word that means “red earth,” referring to the iron-rich soil found in the region. It truly is a place of amazing history and beauty.

One of the most magical moments on Lake Muskoka happens around 8:30 p.m. when the sun begins to set. Throughout the summer, the daylight stretches out in all its glory, ending with a sky painted in breathtaking shades of orange and pink. Imagine this: you’re lounging on a cozy lakehouse dock, cocktail in hand, surrounded by the people you love, as the sun dips below the horizon, casting the perfect glow over the water. Sounds like a dream, right? We’re definitely in!

Although the sunsets are one in a million, Lake Muskoka still has so much more to offer. From boating, wake surfing and tubing, to beautiful golf courses, amazing restaurants and hotels (and possible celebrity sitings), you truly never run out of fun things to do!

Boating is definitely one of the most popular activities on the lake. Think about it: getting the chance to spend all day on a boat? In 80-degree weather with all our friends? Um yes! One of our favorite boating and activity companies is SWS Muskoka. They offer so many different water sports lessons, tubing activities and boat rentals to guarantee an amazing day.

Another favorite summer activity with family and friends is golf. It’s not as boring as it may sound especially when surrounded by the right people, and definitely incorporating some friendly competition! Lake Muskoka has plenty of beautiful courses you can experience for a guest round. Some of our favorites are Kirrie Glen, Beaumaris Yacht Club and Muskoka Lakes Golf & Country Club
