A Little Roadtrip to Rhody
Welcome to Rhode Island! Just because it’s the smallest state doesn’t deny the fact that it’s home to one of the best beachside getaway spots known to New Englanders — Newport! While you might be ready to settle down and call this place home after just one day, we’ll give you the rundown on how to make the best of your trip from start to finish with only 24 hours!
Let’s start the morning off well caffeinated — we have a long day ahead! If you’re a coffee lover like us, you’ve found the best spot. Newport is home to the famous Nitro Bar known for their iconic craft lattes and breakfast sandwiches. They have two locations in Newport, the first at 404 Thames Street and the second at 2 Pond Ave, but be warned, The Nitro Bar is a staple part of both locals’ and tourists’ morning routines. Get there before they open to secure your spot in line, trust us, it’s worth the wait!
Now that you’ve acquired some fuel to take on the rest of the day, there’s no better way to spend Autumn than being outside! Whether you're looking to get a sweat on or just a leisure stroll, hop on a bike and start your two-wheel tour of Newport! A ride through Ocean Drive will have you stopping to pull your phone out to capture the breathtaking views of the Atlantic and infamous Newport mansions; If you’re looking for more nature and history, Fort Adams State Park is where you'll want to be. End your tour in Newport Center to grab a bite to eat before you hit the streets shopping!
If we’re talking good lunch, we’re talking Thames Street. A local tradition for over 40 years, the Brick Alley Pub offers everything from fresh seafood to fine steaks. Right in the center of Newport, you can pop in here for a comfort meal before exploring the rest of the city. If you want a little more laid-back atmosphere, hit up Flo’s Clam Shack for quality food and fun. Whether it’s the raw bar, lobster roll or cup of clam chowder, the shack offers some of the best seafood in Newport!
Hopefully, you’re full because now it’s time to get our shopping on. The town center offers a mix of upscale boutiques, local artisan shops and gift shops. You can find a variety of different fashion, art, home decor and of course, coastal souvenirs. Also on Thames Street is Rochelle’s Boutique which sells both trendy and classic clothing and accessories. Is it really a successful road trip if you don’t come back with a souvenir?!
If you’re familiar with Newport, I know what you’re probably thinking: how could they forget the Cliff Walk?! Fear not, we save the best for last. After completing the scenic 3.5-mile-long walk along Newport’s beautiful coast, reward yourself with dinner and drinks at the Ocean Cliff restaurant. Known for its fresh local seafood and picture-worthy panoramic views, this will be the most delicious way to complete your trip to Newport!
