Dressing For The In Between Weather

Fall in North Carolina means the weather in the morning is completely different than the weather in the afternoon. You go from freezing to sweating in just a few hours and no outfit is right. Let's not even mention how every day of the week is a different temperature. Trust me, I struggle with this every day when chunky sweaters are too hot and T-shirts are too cold. It is a constant battle of what the right outfit is where I won’t be sweating. Having a few staples in your closet that you can mix and match will always help with the daily struggle in the morning when you are already running late and nothing in your closet is working.

Let’s take a look at a guide to help battle these inconsistent temperatures.

First, having a staple pair of jeans will make every day easier. Having a pair that fits you right is important because, I know personally, if a pair of jeans isn’t comfortable to wear all day I’m not wearing them. Right now I love the Abercrombie low-rise baggy jeans; they come in a variety of colors and are perfect for day-to-day wear.

Second, having a neutral sweater that isn’t too thick to throw on in the mornings is important. H&M has tons of options of button-up cardigans that are lightweight and easy to throw over your shoulders if it gets warm in the afternoon. Gap also is a great option. They have tons of styles that allow you to have fun with colors. I love the crewneck sweater in the shade of slipper red.

Third, have a basic tee or long sleeve to have on underneath your sweater or cardigan so you have the ability to take them off. Finding good basic T-shirts and long sleeves is a harder task than it should be; some are see-through or just not great quality. My go-to spot is Brandy Melville for all things basic. The tees and long sleeves aren’t too expensive and they have so many different styles to choose from. They always hit right above your jeans and are the perfect piece to have on underneath your sweater. The Lenna top is a little bit longer than their usual tees and is perfect with low-waisted jeans.

When it comes to shoes you could go any direction. A fun pop of color, uggs, ballet flats or boots; it’s really up to you and your vibe of the day. Switching up the shoes can also elevate your outfit and allow you to mix and match some of your staple pieces.

No one is ever fully prepared when it comes to dressing for the awkward temperatures, but having some items that you know work well together makes everything easier.
